i brought mine to a guy that powder coats. he media blasted them down to raw metal and powder coated them. usually its pretty cheap and it is definantly way more durable than regualar paint. i paid $30 a wheel.

My friend's painting some wheels for his Shadow using RustOleum wheel primer and black wheel paint. They've turned out quite well. We just scuffed the wheel up, cleaned it with mineral spirits, then sprayed them.

copied from the thread posted..

ok for the parts list, i scuffed them with a green pad (like a scotch brite type pad) and for paint, this is good. i used do-it gloss white. yep as in ace hardware el' cheapo store brand do-it paint. (we have used this on racecar weels for some time and it seems to hold up well for that). and some valspar something or other clear.

I have done this a few times and I have a system.

First I wash the wheels with simple green and dry them.
Then sand with wet/dry automotive grade 400 grit paper. Sand till there is no gloss and the finish is dull and smooth.
Wash again with simple green.
Dry and check for and glossy/rough spots.
Once satisified, mask wheel sections/tire off that you do not want to paint.
Wipe down surfaces to be painted with mineral spirits.
Dry and spray color. About 10 mins between coats. 2 light coats, then 2 medium to heavy coats.
Clear coat about 10 mins after final color coat.
Let wheels dry, unmask, and enjoy!
