ok, heres the deal, my gp is starting to be a fat ass sagging in the rear, now what are my options to remedy this? I dont want to lower it, would gxp springs help this or would that change it too much?

GXP's sat a little lower. You can just get new replacment springs for the rear.

Welcome to the club of sagging rear ends. Just get new stock springs and you should be good to go.

Roughly 100 for a pair of rears and a little more if you wanted to replace the strut mounts and such.

Just out of curiosity, would there be a nice painted version of the stock (or near stock) springs that could be purchased so that they will not show rust over time? :) Perhaps I would change mine once I do the struts. I hate seeing my rusty ole springs! :)

I guess it all depends on where you live ... I pulled my stock setup of my CompG @ 70k and there was no rust on the springs at all. There was some minor surface rust on the struts, but nothing major. Most of the springs made these days are P.C. and will last a long time provided they don't get abused.

The ones on my 04 still look great. Powder coating is holding up really well. And on my GF's car they still looked fine after 13 years. They were fatigued like no other, but not rusty.

I'm not sure of any place that has stock(ish) springs powder coated any other color than black, but if you really wanted to any reputable powder coater could do it for a pretty good price. Regular paint will just chip off after all the flexing.

Yea, those 6 years enduring Michigan winters has given me the gift of rust on my springs. So stock springs are PC black? That is good enough for me. Thanks!

It's nice having one of my roommates studying abroad. His closet is making a very nice drying room.

Moog- nice. So what are variable rate springs?? and what advanatges do they have over stock?

Thanks!

it's just a progressive dampening... "In progressive springs each coil is spaced differently and have a variable spring rate. When free, it is easy to compress progressive springs for first centimeters. As you apply more forces, coil on a progressive spring come closer. After a certain point, coil at the top 1/4 of progressive springs begin to touch each other and finally become inactive or dead, and that makes the spring stiffer. Apply more forces to a progressive spring then it becomes stiffer because as the number of active coils in a spring decreases, the spring rate increases. So, progressive springs may both be sensitive to very small bumps on the road, while giving the stiffness you need during hard braking and turning."

Excellent explanation. Thanks!

The picture is huge so I didn't want to post it on here.

I will have to check this out later. Thanks! So in general, if replacing spring, we should try to use variable rate springs..say from Moog? :)

Almost any spring made for cars is progressive, mostly only standard rates are used in racing setups where consistency is key. all my info was taken from http://www.tuninglinx.com/html/suspension-springs.html
