I recently installed new front brakes...god I should have gotten pics before posting this. Its simple logic that on a stock set-up, more wear is on the inside pad because that is where the brake piston is. Well my brakes were metal-on-metal before I noticed any noise from the brtakes. Why? Because the dealership that sold me the car put the auditory wear indicators on the outside pads!! I know for a fact that it was the dealer. All work previous to work that me or my mechanic have done, was done by that dealership. Anyone else seen something bone-headed like this done? I have never done brakes untill I did mine, and figured out right away that it was done wrong...

I hope thats not why I have not heard any squealing yet from my brakes with 50K miles on them.

I would look at them immediatly. Mine were wore out within that time. It will start sounding like its grinding. Your rotors will be ruined if the pads arent replaced. I got my parts at mechanics cost, and it was still over 200 dollers...tho I did buy premium pads :)

Our dodge stratus came with them on the outside from the factory... I think my GP had them on the outside too? I know my F150 did..

Well its ****ed when you think about it...the inside will always have more wear on a sliding-caliper setup. I cant comprehend why it would be on the outside

Actually pad wear should be quite even for the inside vs outside pads due to the free floating caliper design, unless the slide pins have siezed due to no grease, the piston seal or bore is damaged or worn out, or if the pad is catching on the caliper bracket (hence why you lube all contact points when doing brakes), then yes the inside pad would wear more because the caliper isn't "free floating" anymore.
So, if you have uneven brake wear that sever, there is a bigger problem at hand than what pad the squealers are on.

Of all the Wbody brakes I've done, the pads were worn quite evenly between inside vs outside. Yes sometimes the inside were worn slightly more (mostly due to their drivers riding the brake ever so slightly, MOM!!!!! ) but the outside pad was still worn enough for the squealers to touch the rotor and thus give the audible "worn brake pad" alert.

Found this cool animation

Ohhhhh....well I did regrease everything so HOPEFULLY then it should be more even. I do know that my calipers are a little worse for the wear and I'll be replacing them this year. So then there is no reason putting them on the outside should be a bad thing? But imo it still makes more sense to put them on the inside...?
