The other day my extra lugnut that I put on my stripped bolt (Been like that since I got the car. I need new knuckles x.x) came off while I was driving. Luckily I noticed it right when it happened, so I replaced it with another lugnut as tight as I could get it.

Three days ago I noticed it gone again, and after I replaced the missing lugnut, I've noticed a strange and unappealing humming sound coming from the front end, and I think that same wheel.

Any ideas? I believe an alignment and balance may help.

Yeah just replace the stripped stud and you'll be good to go.

So wait, you can remove the "stud" bolts from the knuckle that the wheel lug nuts bolt onto? I had no idea.

Yeah, the studs are splined into the hub (so they won't spin while torquing the lug nuts). Just hit it with a hammer and they will pop right out, or use some heat persuasion and/or bigger hammer if it's being stubborn, then just tap a new stud in, tighten down the nuts (check to make sure the new stud is completely seated to the hub) and you're good to go.
If you want to get fancy, Document ID: 678496 shows the "proper" none beat the crap of it way how to do it.

An update. Those studs are too small for the holes they are supposed to be hammer in.

It's not that, it's the fact I couldn't find the right one at all no matter where I went.

Tomorrow I'm going to the tire shop down the road called Discount Tire. I'm sure they have some.

Found the right ones today going to a brake shop. It was listed under 2003, not 2004.

Turns out it's my front right wheel barring; it's almost completely worn out. : /

So...any thoughts on wheel barrings? Never changed, or seen changed, these before. Also, what size is the center nut on the wheel knuckle?

Winner winner chicken dinner. This is why I asked you on facebook if it made more noise if you turned.
The center nut is either 34,35,36mm :waits for 10 members to come in and saw what size there's is: Easiest thing to do is go to the local auto parts store and see if you can rent those socket sizes, or just buy a 36mm and call it a day since it will do all 3 sizes without totally messing up the axle nut corners. Other than breaking that axle nut loose, the rest is pretty easy. There are 3 bolts on the back side of the spindle (13mm I think) that hold the hub/bearing assembly into the spindle, then use whatever persuasion method you prefer (hammer, chisel, puller, etc) and remove the hub, then pop in the new one and tighten everything back up (spindle to hub bolts are 96lbft, says to use new bolts, I just add loctite and call it a day and the key torque to not mess up is the 118lbft for the axle nut) and enjoy a noise free ride.

Document ID: 653267 for the writeup and you can also check out youtube for some help. If I remember correctly some guy has a video posted of doing it on an Impala.

All of my local hardware stores sell these front end barrings for $100+. Any place anyone knows of I can possibly find these cheaper? Ebay had nothing, and so did amazon. I don't have just random spare cash flying around. : / Just got my new job here too, and can't even use my car. Frustrationnnnn.

Ebay does have them for like 30-40 bucks, BUT you get what you pay for and will be lucky to get a year out of it before it fails as well. The whole cheap parts cost more in the long run is so true for this design of GM hub/bearings.

I have to quit putting in the year when typing in the ebay search bar. I'd rather deal with the cheapo one for now than the one I have. I have almost no money, so $37 is perfect just for now. I'll see if I can go ahead and buy two, instead of just replacing one, cuz I know the driver's side is old too.

Thanks.

Try Rockauto; they might be a bit dearer but they'll last longer.
