I was wondering, is it worth it to try to find an upgrade for the struts on an 04 Gomp G?
The car has about 95k on it, rides nice most of the time. But when I hit uneven surfaces on the road sometimes I hear a knocking sound (mostly from the right front). The top of the strut mount is also pretty rusty so I want to replace the whole shootin' match. I was planning to stick with the AC Delco FE3 but if there is a upgrade most people end up going with sooner or later I would like to know about it while I am planning on doing the work anyway.

Also...what ever set up you guys recomend, if you know where is the best place to buy that would be great.

Thanks in advance,

Jake

ZZperformance has a good deal on the KYB AGX struts at the moment but you will need to replace your strut mount plates on all four corners. You could go with just stock McPherson replacements and they hold up fairly well to whatever you throw at them. Then, there are the Bilsteins but they cost $$$$$

Thanks Roger, Are the KYB AGX's a big improvement from the stock Gomp G struts? I went over to ZZPerformance...seriously considering picking those up.

Malefic_gp has them btw you will need lower control arms from a 97-03 for them to work

^^^This too. If you do all of that (and maybe lower it along with the GMPP upgrade) you will be good on handling for your car. I am surprised they do not specify that you can run those if you change out the control arms.....

Well there is also the Bilstein struts out of the GXP. I've been locating a couple sets at the junkyards and I'm gonna pick up some over the winter for next spring.

Okay, Thanks for all the info. I guess I am just going to put a new set of Comp G struts on. I think I was just looking to upgrade for the sake of upgrading, nothing wrong with what it came with I suppose. Now if I can find 4 of them with top mounting brackets with out spending so much that I can't afford gas. >.<

What are the OEM struts on the GTP Comp G. I have a 2004 GTP Comp G and I can't seem to find a specific strut. Are they AcDelco or are they fancier? What are the costs for exactly the same struts as the car came with? Would the GR-2 from KYB be just as good as direct OE replacement? Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated. =)

Thanks Mike

They are supposedly a better valved setup and have a "firmer" ride. They are the FE3 option from GM...Prices from GM are about $200 a strut IIRC

OE replacements will all be fine.

So the KYB GR-2's would be a good equal to OEM?

I've been shopping for replacements for my GTP. I want the strut and spring assembly. Should I get the GM FE3's , the Monroe Quick Struts, or the KYB units?

Another option you could consider would be getting a low mileage replacement set from Morad Parts Company. I got 2005 GTP complete strut assemblies with springs from them for cheap a few years back.
