Hello all..... just a heads up for anyone who has a Comp G and 245/45/18s..... SSC springs = tire rubbing on wheel well.

Last night was the first time I had 4 people in my car since I lowered it. On the trip we took to a family meal, we were hitting some nice little dips at 80~110km/h, and occasionally would hear some vibrating sounds from the trunk.

We figured it was the board games the girls brought (yeah, our girlfriends are 26yr board game nerds :o ), so I thought nothing of it and just figured it was really annoying.

On the ride home, I told them to stick 'em in the backseat so I could make sure it wasn't something stupid like my tire hitting the bottom of the strut plate.

10 minutes later.... more noise. Too dark to see last night, I set it aside 'til today.

Looks like the tires are rubbing in the rear at the wheel well liner lip (not the plastic, the actual painted part).

My tire has sliced little grooves with rubber strings hanging all over the place. Not bad for 1000km old tires! So, needless to say.... SSC springs are advertised at 1" drop, but anyone who's got 'em for an '04 knows it's more like 1.6"

Instead of paying 3-4hrs labour to swap springs, I'm just going to sell the kit to a last-gener around here and try and get some GXPs.

Can I use these spacers on the rear only? Or will it throw my the whole car off? Also, I don't know anything about "rolling" fenders, sounds like a lot of work!

Roll the fenders. What's the point in having a lowered car if you are going to use spacers to bring up the rear?

edit: Rolling the fenders isn't difficult. You need a heat gun to warm up the paint and you can rent a fender roller device on ebay for $80. There are instructional vids on either youtube or streetfire.

You should use some Gen2 SSC rears from a 97-03 kit to raise your rear. The 04+ SSC rear springs are shorter and always seem to give these problems.

If you have to modify further to make your mod work because it causes problems with drivability then maybe you should rethink that first mod?

Food for thought.

Rolling the fenders is a bandaid for a poor decision.
Not that you did anything wrong here. The car simply will not accept this size wheel allong with the lowering springs. There is give and take with anything you do. If you want the car lowered then you can't think that it will carry the same weight. If you want to lower the car and have the same weight carrying ability then you have to stiffen the springs which means a harsher ride. My suggestion was not a bad one, and no you probably will not notice the harsher rear end. Your call.

So, here's an update.

I put GXP Bilsteins on my car all around, and I replaced the springs with proper SSCs for 2004+ models (verified serial numbers).

Both rear wheels rub the fenders when hitting dips. I called around town and finally got referred to someone who would roll my fenders.

All we had to do was tap about 1mm inwards for about 10 inches at the top of the fender. The only portion that was touching was that little lip (1mm) that bends inwards.

$20.00 later, problem solved!

No it's not and yes it was.

A bandaid is a temp solution. When rolling the fenders, which really isn't hard at all, you FIX the problem. Usually the problem was wheel offset choice but it's not a big deal.

You suggssted he raise the car back up. He may not notice a difference in ride quality but he just raised a lowered car back up with cheap plastic spacers, that's a bandaid solution.

For the record:

Looks good. As I said your decision. Nice job on the roll by the way.

I had a similar problem with my car, the strut can't take the lowering springs. I ended up getting KYB AGX struts.
