The car is at 75k miles and I changed from castrol synthetic gtx to castrol high mileage. 5w30 is the weight since thats what 04+ calls for put problem is as soon as I started the car up with the new high mileage I have the worst ticking/chattering noise I have ever heard. But im not getting any KR from it.

Any ideas?

When I ran high mileage oil I got nastier lifter noise and my engine leaked like a sieve. Switch back.

Once you go synthetic you're not supposed to switch back! I'd drain it now and go back to synthetic. Mobil 1 has a high mileage synthetic I've heard good things about. Then again I used normal Mobil 1 synth in my GTP from 110K to 165K miles and it was great.

True that. Sorry Derek. Jaclyn's car has had Mobil one since day one and I haven't had any valve chatter (then again it's an unmodded and not boosted haha). I know the VR guys get a ton of valve/lifter noise in the summer time and they just put some oil stabilizer in it and the problem goes away. Not that I'm a fan of any sort of a product just wanted to through that out there.

I've both ways, but it seems like switching to dino from syn irritated your car a bit ;)

BTW are you busy with school or what? You're never trolling the GPONA as much as you used to. I miss your sweet text, flowing across my screen like a river flowing forth from...oh wait. this is getting weird, isn't it?

Im gonna switch back to synthetic once i have money for oil lol. And yea school has been keeping me busy. Actually did a complete teardown on a series 1 3800 :P

just fyi this is the sound, its an mp4

http://gpdiy.org/files/VID_20101219_171945.mp4

Also on the way home it changed... Now it seems to be coming from just the rear as far as I can tell.

You positive it is not a loose rocker arm? I know you have had it all apart.

Thats what I thought but I checked the rear where it sounds like its coming from and nothing.

Sadly I cant take the time to tear it down further till x-mas break starts since I still have school till thursday and work.

I'm not so sure about that - I would have stuck with the synth'.
The problem is the way the engine reacts and what you do about it.
First things first:

Always make sure you pour at least 1/2 quart of oil in the filter before you screw it on.
Dry starts are bad for the engine - that's why there's an anti-drainback valve on the filter.
I don't care what some moron says otherwise....they should stick to serving coffee to old ladies.
Dinos' contain Parafins [wax],synth's don't [at least TRUE synths'].
Parafins don't melt and work until the engine gets up to operating temps.
If you're running synth' and switch over to dino, the oil may not get to where it needs to be in sufficient amounts to lube the parts the way they should be.
A good run on the highway may be in order.
The issue is that the parafins coat the internals when they get hot.
Change the oil type and everything gets out of whack.
The engine needs to be re-attuned to the oil type.
The only way to do that is to get it hot for a period or switch back to what it "knows".
Engines are only "human".

Alright, quick update. Changed the oil out and drove the car to work today. Noise is still there and just sounds terrible. I have noticed that in park and neutral it sounds god awful. In reverse or drive its not nearly as bad and once I give it throttle its goes away till I take my foot off the gas.

Wonder if you cracked a flywheel. I can't hear the noise, since I'm on my phone, but something doesn't seem right about it being valve noise to me.

Im starting to think it could be somthing to do with the trans, possibly the flywheel... Because the engine is running strong.
