I removed the valve from the engine bay and well my dumbass tagged the gas tank and poked a hole in it. I got a new tank for the car but there is a big box sitting on it and 2 of the 3 ports on it are for the charcoal canister and the other is for the evap purge that runs to the engine bay so the question is... is this box needed or does it serve just as a emissions thing. I am not worried about emissions in my state but I have it all apart and would be really easy to get to and take off if it is not needed.
the old tank doesnt have the port coming off the big line like the replacement tank does is that important. I mostly want to know if I can remove that big box and move on and stick it all back together with no ill effects

It's pretty much strictly an emission thing. The purge system works in a way to keep gasoline fumes from venting into the atmosphere. Canister captures the fumes to be recycled back into the system. The only problem is you would have to cap off the tubes, and disable the emission system so that it won't throw a code. There is a pressure sensor in the fuel tank that also works with the purge system to make sure everything is working properly.

I've never personally done this, but it sounds like it would just be easier to put everything back like it should be in this case.

This box is strictly for the canister purge charcoal part, it is used so that gasoline does not get into the charcoal canister because it removes it, I would leave it attached because it will also help with the pressure in the tank. Hooking everything up the way it was is the best bet because then you are not going to mess up the fuel pump by changing volume which will change pressure and throw off the guage and even the meter when you fill up. It is less of a hassel to get the factory routing specs and set it up the way it was. If you do not know where each tube goes, email me and I can get you the website for the specs. Bumpj5@yahoo.com
