Tan to light brown is normal with age and use.

If it comes out black, or looking like coffee, then you have problems.

I change mine every year.

Dealers will always tell ya its a non serviceable item, because they hope you'll come in and buy a whole new unit some day. Cha-ching.

GM oil, is what I, and others would recommend...for now. ;-)

If your using motor oil, or gear oil, that's different, and not for this application. Its in a closed sealed, and if you have a later model M90, a UNVENTED system. Its a gear to gear set up, and have open caged roller ball bearings that all get lubed.

I have serviced a M90 that had oil other than GM oil being ran through it. Inside the snout and rotor assembly it was pretty much slime build up, think of it like engine sludge you see in a mid to high mileage engine, that used cheap oil, and was not frequently changed. What they ran, I never heard, but it did clean up, thanks to some solvent, and a hot tank.

But its your car...do as you wish.

I've never changed mine in the 4 years and 46k miles I've had the car. However, I don't recommend trying that... I'm just lazy, and it isn't broken, so why bother? I also have a hookup for a new M90 if I need one cheap...

3/16 Allen Wrench...... watch your index finger main knuckle...... ouch!

I used a syringe with aquarium airline tubing. wasnt able to suck out any more after i raised LR tire off ground 6 inches. Fluid came out brown but still transparent. Took a few ounces shy of 2 bottles to fill.

wish someone had pictures of the inside of the supercharger so see how the slope is to the drain end. anyone have an old supercharger they wanna cut in half?

Anyone need s/c oil? I bought it from gm online because I was going to buy a GTP but changed my mind. I just want to get rid of it.

Here ya go.

GenIII M90 snout, drain/fill plug is in the lower left side:
Image

GenIII's, they kinda have a large "sump" so its easier to get in there, and suck all the old oil out.

GenV M90 snout, drain/fill plug is in the lower left side:
Image

You can see the additional "webbing" they added to the GenV snout to beef it up because the snout depth is not as deep as the GenIII. Mainly they did this because of the new rotor design. I also know the aluminum casting is not as good on a GenV as it is on a GenIII. I will machine that first "web" out of the snout to make it easier to remove the oil supercharger oil from it on my own superchargers.

Hope that helps ya all some.

LOL, It's called preventive maintance. No different than changing the oil in your car. Maybe it's just me, but I would rather take the 10-15 minutes and change the S/C oil every year. Rather than spend a morning or afternoon changing out the blower along with the other gaskets/o rings you will need. But then again your not me and don't like taking care of your car and it's components cause they aren't broken. ;-)

I kinda want mine to fail. Gives me an excuse to get a Gen V.

Need a good excuse first. I can't justify fixing something that isn't broken anymore.

...and to those running "other oils" in there superchargers...

From Eaton:
http://www.eaton.com/Eaton/ProductsServ ... /index.htm

New oil can be obtained from any GM or Ford service parts facility, or from one of the Eaton aftermarket supercharger partner companies or remanufacturers. Please make sure you do NOT use any other type of oil, including synthetic motor oils. These will cause failure. The correct oil is “NYE 605” as well as Loctite 510 (liquid gasket) for reassembly.

From my buddy I know who works at Eaton, we were talking about this subject for a good laugh, and he says: "Like everything else in life, you go outside the lines and go cheap and you’re on your own and often catastrophic failure is lurking right around the corner. There has been no testing on the other oils to prove one way or the other and there is definitely no warranty for failures. Approved oils have millions of miles of dynamometer testing and have the backing of Eaton and our OEM customers. Unapproved oils have the guarantee of their manufacturer if you can find them and read the fine print to make sure they back their products for use in a device that can spin up to 15,000 rpm steadily."

So...to those that have been running engine oil, or gear oil, lets see some proof of the claims that it makes your supercharger "run cooler, and better". Further more, take your unit apart, and lets see what it looks like inside. I know what they look like inside after non approved gear oil was ran in one.

You dump that stuff in your supercharger to save a buck and be different, your rolling the dice ya know.

Ya'll are wussies who say this stuff smells...

A friend and I cleaned mine yesterday, it was horrid and not in smell aspect, we didn't even get an OZ of the old stuff out of it and it was a distasteful feces brown with pretty much the same consistency as said color. It wasn't a pleasant smell, but horse manure smells worse, trust me .

Glad I stumbled on this thread to entice me to change it ;)

I've had to change the S/C oil in a few customer's cars at work, to me it didn't smell any worse than gear oil in older RWD cars.

I'm gonna change mine after it gets out of the shop. Can this NYE 605 be picked up at any AutoZone?

i'd do it cold.
considering how much the s/c pulley moves w/ the engine?
you'd prolly melt your removal tool w/ the oil/

not that it has much relevence but it makes me wonder about modern motercycle oils as a possible alternitive as there are many of them that turn 14k anymore (and yes i am sure of this as i have one at home).

not that i plan on doing it, just a thought.
