I have a 2007 Grand Prix that is topswapped. Its started out as a really bad misfire, couldnt figure it out, broke down along the road, got towed into dealership to tell me my spark plug tips are melted and gone. They wanted to bend me over and charge me 330 bucks to change plugs, dont even know why the quoted me. If anyone can help me as to what has caused this and if it will happen i put autolite 605's in now. i had Gm acdelos in. Here are some pics Please help Thanks

What pulley and mods?

Melting plugs = plugs are too hot. This is one of the reasons modded Wbodys run 104's and 103's.

By no pulley do you mean the 3.8" stock pulley? Do you scan for knock? What tune is on the car?

Do you scan? Do you have knock? Especially in the cold. I need to drop 2-3 psi around October when the temperature gets colder just to keep the knock away.

None of your pictures work for me, but I would bet it was the stock plugs. See how it goes with the 605's and check them in a couple thousand miles.

I doubt you chipped a piston. If you'd done that, it wouldn't have been on all six cylinders. Get some Autolite 104's, and call it good. They are two heat ranges colder, and will be a better bet than the 605's which are only one heat range cooler. Where do you live, btw?

Revision........

I looked at the pics you posted on GPF.com. Atleast one plug (missing electrode) looks smashed to me. Hard to tell in the pics, but they don't look melted, rather look to be smashed. Smashed = Serious Damage.

If you don't have access to a scope to look into the plug holes, they I would put in a new set of plugs, see how the car reacts and pull the plugs and check for new damage.

I run a stock L26 like you have. They will take a ton of abuse, but you need to be smart about it.

I would imagine if you had clipped pistons your plugs would be smashed again in no time. Sounds like your hopefully gonna be in good shape. I have 1.84 Roller Rockers and the HV3 insert on a otherwise stock L26 motivated by a Bullseye S256 Turbo and Exhaust mods. I am on the box tune from ZZP for my turbo setup. It isn't the best option for tunes, but has provided results and has gotten me through a year. Plans to dyno tune with some other locals in the Spring.

You have to be careful with a top swap because of the higher compression of the L26. The L32's have lower compression to accommodate the SC. Because of this, a top swapped L26 will be faster than a L32, but not as reliable. It's a lot easier to kcuf something up.

Ouch, don't want to be "that guy" but no supporting mods will bit you in the butt with a top swap? No lower thermostat or exhaust mods or anything?

you need headers on a top swap because of the higher compression.
