About a month ago did a top swap on my 04 GT. Put in a GenV, NIC, SSAC's, with other mods like double roller, ls6 springs, 39# Ev6, ARP studs, ZZP wires, etc. Anyway, it ran perfectly normal temps before the swap and a little bit afterwards, I started noticing it running a bit hot. Nothing too crazy...but still way too warm for what it should be. Seeing temperatures around 203-206 on a cool night and throughout the day. On a hot day it even got up to 230  I did a coolant flush through the whole system and the antifreeze was all nice and clean (green stuff)...had about 50/50 in there. Thought maybe the t-stat wasn't opening...so I changed that out as well and still nothing. :???: Fans are working fine and the waterpump seems to be good. I'm not getting much pressure in the upper rad hose which is weird considering it used to get quite a bit of pressure before the swap....

any suggestions?

OK, lets start with the basics. Did you put in a 180 stat and reprogram the fans to match the new stat?

I had the 180 tstat since I owned the car...i just put in a different tstat...the fans haven't been programmed yet. Nothing ready changed cooling system-wise.

But with the "new" programing for the swap if the fans where not programed then they will come on at factory temps, often in the 220* range, so unless it starts running a bit warmer than that I would freak out too bad, just keep a watchfull eye on it till you get it sorted.

Have you ever replaced the radiator cap? They tend to get overlooked a lot.

If the fans haven't been programmed that is probably why you are running that hot. I'd go get that tuned and taken care of.

That could be your problem then. I used to run over 200°F daily, higher in heavy traffic, until I reprogrammed the fans to match the 180 stat. Now my gauge stays at the 1/4 mark all the time instead of past the 1/2 mark. Here are my settings.

The stock setting are on the right and the changes are on the left. From top to bottom is Fan 1, Fan 2, Keyoff Temperature, Keyoff Time. The Keyoff parameters tell the fans to stay on after the car is shut off if the temperature is 185°F or above and to stay on for 360 seconds.

OK, i'll try a new radiator cap (already got one in the car) and I will try to reprogram the fans...but why would it all of the sudden change after a topswap? The car never used to run this hot before...would see temps around 185ish...like I said, nothing changed in the cooling system, why now? perhaps the radiator cap is bad? I'll keep digging, keep the opinions coming in! Thank you in advance!

did you change the coolant temp sonsor as well? or did you swap over your old sensor to the new LIM?

every temp sensor reads slightly diffrent from one another. as long as the temp is not overly hot it is fine

By doing a topswap, you just mounted a belt driven heat pump on top of your engine. Try touching the SC an hour after you shut it down. It will probably still be pretty hot.

If you did a top swap and coolant flush, did you bleed the system of any possible air pockets?

Understandable...I just hate seeing that thing go over 200 degrees...I got a buddy that also did a top swap and his runs around 170ish

If I remember correctly, the new LIM came with a sensor. But we switched it out anyway.

Changing the fan settings is a BIG deal. I ran mine on at 182* with a 180* t-stat, and NEVER saw coolant temps top 185*...ever.

I'll have to do that then..

-- Fri Aug 19, 2011 6:47 am --

I'll keep this updated....the new radiator cap didn't do it...fan settings or bust.

I agree with the rest of the guys, you can search waaaay back to my post. I found out that It was only the tune....I wasn't used to seeing high temps because my tune was always on. Now I drive everyday with the same temps... just get an overkill your problem will be solved O.O

One thing I notice in your first post - you state, "I'm not getting much pressure in the upper rad hose...".

You have replaced the radiator cap, so I suspect either you still have air in the cooling system (you did open up the bleeder by the thermostat, correct?), or you have an internal coolant leak. Are you losing coolant? Is the oil level okay?

My '07 GT has good pressure in the hoses when the engine is warmed up.

Something beyond fan settings is going on here. If it was only fan settings the upper radiator hose would be firm with the engine at operating temperature.
