Good day!

Would getting new 1.9 rockers OR a new cam be worth the costs? I would not be able to install either of these myself and would get a local shop to do it. Just wondering how much increased performance would occur with either one.

Thanks!

Depends on what you wanna do with the car. Wanna run 10 second 1/4 miles? Cam. Daily driver with minimal mods for some excitement? Rockers. Rockers will cost about the same as the cam, but install prices will be SERIOUSLY less.

How about a 10 sec car for a daily driver? :) I live 4 miles from work and want to get home fast:)

Yes, you are right. Cam and rocker cost approx the same, but the install...... Wow...triple for the cam! I just checked it out.

How much potential hp gain for rockers versus a cam?

Thanks

If I get this right, I think the gains for a mild cam versus rockers are going to be similar. I THINK. I could be wrong here.

Once tuned, with a moderate cam, you can easily pick up better than twice the power of a 1.84 roller rocker. Those are good for about 25hp once tuned, all other things being equal...on a stock cam.

Rockers = more lift
Cam = more lift and duration

Go with the rockers since you are not doing the work yourself.

I also had this question but mines n/a ...which is worth the money and will the rockers make it have a lopey idle or is that just the cam ?

-- Fri Sep 24, 2010 4:44 pm --

And about how much will the installment of the cam cost and is there a write up on doing this and also the rockets ?

Cam will give you a lopey idle, rockers will not.

Heres a tutorial I used but rewrote and printed out for when I did my cam install.
http://www.mccgp.com/upgrades/caminstal ... ll_new.php

Heres a general idea on what your going to spend

What is a lopey idle?

Just to let you know that according to the shop I go to, which normally has somewhat reasonable rates , said that installing a cam will cost $1200, and rockers about $400.

They said that you really need to pull the engine to install a cam....not sure about that one.

It really pays to know your shit mechanics wise :)

I am about to do a set of 1.9 rockers on my car and decided to go that route because I don't want the car to do 10s just 12s. I'm going to eventually run an intercooler with a much smaller pulley. Besides rockers give you pretty much the same amount of hp gain as a mild camshaft with a lot less work. Obviously you will need to tune your shift points to 6k or higher (depending on the springs you go with) to fully take advantage of the high end power the rockers will give you

The lopey idle is when you hear a car with a cam it sounds lumpy.

And you don't have to pull your engine on these cars all you need is a engine support to hold the engine while you drop the cradle.

Just don't forget springs no matter what you end up getting.

If one were to install 1.9 rockers on a GTP, what springs should one get? Also, what about bolts too?

Anything else I should consider if replacing the rockers?

Thanks

You don't have to pull the engine just lower one side of the engine cradle, you can install a cam in your car and still be a reliable daily driver. With a mild cam you can run 12's in the 1/4 mile without an intercooler. A decent cam will net you around 55 whp or more

For 1.9 rockers you could go with ls6 springs and make sure you get new seals and locks as well as the modified retainers.

I'd go with LS6 springs and you should be fine with 1.9 rockers

The seals locks and springs and retainers are all important with either a cam or/1.9 rockers. You don't want something breaking and have a valve kiss a piston
