My mechanic has specialty business (several actually) building custom trannys/ differentials/ axles/ etc for street and racing applications. He has made me an offer to put in a 3.8ltr and a 4t65e in my grand am. I would buy the engine and tranny and some of the engine upgrade parts (harness, turbos) he would install them, upgrade the tranny, differential, axles and all other drivetrain parts free of charge. he would then sponsor the car and all I would have to do is race it once in a while for the business. and he has also offered me a job monitoring and maintaining the company website and forum. at the same time I would get training on building/ installing custom transmissions.

what do you guys think?

It fits, need a custom mount though, more work than it's worth IMO. Better off buying a gtp with 150k on it for cheaper than what that'd be in labor (assuming he's charging labor). Few threads on the forum below with people putting 100 hours in for it.

ya, it's not really worth it really. The up side you it- is that you have a bit faster Grand AM and thats it. It's not even going to be RWD or manual. Just get a Grand Prix or any 3800 v6 car.

not worth all the trouble if you're paying for it at all...... just buy a grand prix, it'll be cheaper for you., and it'll look way better IMO. lol

If you would have read my whole post you would have seen that I said there would be NO LABOR CHARGES. I am just to buy the engine, tranny and a few engine parts needed for the swap like a custom wiring harness which would shave hours off of the install. that would be my ONLY cost since I would also agree to drag race it with his company as sponsor

Thanks for the link tho I will check it out.

Cheaper... really? I would only be paying for the engine, tranny and a few engine parts needed for the install so please show me where I can buy a GP for $1500-$1800.

By the way while I respect The personal decisions of every member on this forum to proudly own these cars I do not like them in the least. I hate the way the front end looks on every GP from 97 on up. it just so happens that this model has a powerplant and tranny that can easily be turned into a monster which is a big reason why people like the car and one of the reasons I joined this forum.

here they deal with the 60* v6's
http://www.milzymotorsports.com/

here is another site WOT-Tech
http://wot-tech.com/shop/

witch i think you should keep they are a better engine design and way more eficiant a N/A 3400 can make the same power as my top swaped cam'd 3800. also the 60* is all ready in your car and swapping is expensive and a pain in the ass

Sorry, I didn't read much farther into the post, when I saw 'Grand Am' i stopped reading.... :] just kidding. I didn't see you wouldn't be paying for installation charges, I need to pay closer attention. But in my opinion, and this is just my opinion, i don't see the point. Is the grand am your only form of transportation? If so you MIGHT not want to make it a sponsored drag car...lol.

Having said that. Here's an L67 for $999. Comes with wiring, ECU, and tranny. 110k miles though.

thanks for all the input guys but after further examination the 3800/4t65e swap has been scrapped.

look for an official announcement from me about something that concerns all 3400sfi owners in the next day or 2.
