before some one says GET A XP!! or get a S1x!!!. i am well aware they are a better cam and can support more power.

the reason i am thinking of the VS is idle quality i actualy want a none lopey cam. the GTP is the DD and my mom drives it a bit and with her MS a shacky lopey idle is not good.

i was thinking of parring the VS with 1.7 rockers giving a total lift of .537/.537 little more then the XP. the durration will still be less but not by mutch but that is why the VS idles smoother

thoughts?

car will probably be none intercooled with a 3.5 or smaller if the car has no KR

VS is a good cam and can make big power if tuned properly. A guy locally had one with a 1.7 rocker setup, intercooled running consistant 12.1s. With great gas mileage and stockish idle.

Put YT 1.84 rollers on top of that cam for a li'l more lift.

Mater, I say just stick with headers and maybe a CAI. Don't blow this one up.

Pretty damn close... lol

I vote leave the engine IN the car unless you NEED to take it out. If I were you I wouldn't be testing my luck much...

oh i will not be removing the engine unless i have too. you can install a cam through the passenger wheel well lol

but the more i think i might just do the 1.84 rockers and look for a cheap cam and wait the engine to puke

for cost and ease, i think you would be smart to do a rocker setup. would give you almost as much bump as the vs but far less work and a little cheaper..

i have a new acronym for this car... you need to "kiss" this car

remember kiss

Keep
It
Simple
Stupid

disclamer of nothing degrading is ment by this statement.. and to add that the auto alight jacked up my plan and had to change the layout of the acronym

If I were to do a VS cam (I did have one at one time in my hands) I would do the exact setup that Milestone described. Downtwn got 350whp out of a VS Cam which is about where we max out on WHP before you really have to start searchin' for more power with the S/C

VS cam means you can do 300whp with ease

Rockers means you will struggle to do 300whp if your lucky

What do you want to achieve power wise? A tuned rocker setup and smaller pulley can net you close to 300 but cams are easier to get power out of. I went the rocker route because my car is a DD and idles exactly the same as stock.

^^^ What these guys said and you will suffer the mod bug again because most that do rockers, will end up doing a cam.

12's any where from a 12.9 down to a 12.7 and i will be happy. so 280whp-310whp (the 01 ran a 12.99 with 261WHP but it had no interior, no cat back, donut rims on the back (with proper tires), and slicks on the front)

looking it up i will be fine using 1.84 rockers with a VS so i think i will just do the 1.84 rockers first. then cam it later and still be fine. heck might not even have to cam the car depending on how well it responds to mods

as much as it feels odd to stick up for the little fella, i do have to say he is right.. all the "normal" stuff did fine and all the odd ball shit is what happend. trust me.. i think i have most of it worked out of the car now, but damn was it interesting to do so.

and blowing a fireball is the only thing that blew. i think i could have cleaned it up and put it back together and drove it, but i tore it down to be safe, and all looks good inside. and is what i am using for the build i am doing now.

Local has a VS cam in his '01. Very impressive time(s) for what mods he has done. 12.51 @ 111.52MPH

Hes #2 on our local 1/4 mile list. I'm #3 with my 12.70 @ 105.09MPH. Hopefully I can top that sometime this summer. Last time I ran at the track was 11/03/07. Freaking sad!

All that + the goofy '97 PCM tune we goofed on and pulled a 12 out of it. The fuel tables were backwards on a 1997 vs. a 2001. So my friend who was doing my tuning was used to his 2001, and when we did mine, he forgot to put in the negatives. So instead of adding fuel like it should, it was pulling fuel, and I was running scary lean on the top end. Lean is mean, but I built the engine strong enough it survived that "whoops". We have corrected the program, we just need to go tune it again, and then off to the track. That was 4 years ago...haven't had time, or been to the track since.

oops

silly 97's

anyway this car is in no shape to be modded yet. this thing was neglected hardcore. i have never seen a car so sludged up in the top end and the stock exhuast manifolds are cracked so it needs headers i priced it out and speed daddies are cheaper then replacement manifolds

it had the factory plugs and wires and the factory fuel filter that refuses to come off. this poor poor car
