I changed the oil in my sc for what I'm assuming to be the first time in 148k miles. I noticed 3 days later its making a weird rattling sound. Could I have damaged something. I used 2 bottles of gmt sc oil. Filled it to just below the threads and used a turkey baster with a straw on the end to suck out the old stuff

What the bell happened lol

Sounds like the coupler is shot. Someone may chime in and correct me or agree..

They also have an OE replacement that's like 14.99 if you'd rather do that.

I've heard the coupler sounds like marbles in a can. But I was curious if this is just coincidence or if me changing the oil possibly did something.

i don't see how in the world changing the SC oil can mess up your snout. did you fill it to the bottom threads of the plug? i'd go ahead and change the coupler. the rattling should go away right then and there.

a bad coupler sound like rocks in a can at idle, and the sound goes away when you put the engine under load. its a pretty simple fix.

When you replaced the SC oil, the coupler gremlin became jealous, and decided you needed the extra practice changing the oil anyway.. ;-)

I don't like your answer lol

I've replaced everything from a pcv valve to pistons on a 3800 but the coupler is one thing I've never done but always been curious to do it...what does this thing do?

when i changed mine, i only took out 9 of the 10 bolts and couldnt figure out why the snout wouldn't move, finally found the 10th bolt, UNDER the snout, going down into the block. pulled that one and it came off no probs.

The coupler provided the connection from the snout shaft to the drive gear in the blower. When you see it, you'll understand. I have a new ZZP piece around here somewhere.

Dont feel bad after 176,000 miles I replaced the S/C oil on my GTP that I picked up a few months ago. A few days later and that blower was howling like no tomorrow. I'm pretty sure the bearings are shot, but what are you going to do. I've got another blower sitting in the garage that needs to go one when I do my LIM gasket replacement.

hate to revive a dead topic but if the coupler does go bad, would the noise stay all the time or just when warming up.
