Me and a buddy got talking last night and his 04 Comp G has like 140k miles on it. He wants to do performance work but with being such high miles and not knowing the past history before he owned it might be kinda leery about doing to much performance work on that block. So we talked about just finding a different block and doing the performance build on a engine stand on it and then just swap it in when we get it done. Our only concern is if there is a different block that we need to get with Comp G other than the regular 3800 or can he just go get a series III block and build it off that? Also he was worried about trying to find a S/C'd 3800 and i told him i thought any series III would work and just do a top swap. is this correct? any help would be great!!! im sure when he sees this on here he will chime in also his name is zach04compg. we also talked about the idea of a racing block and build off that but would have to find one hell of a deal lol

If you want the same block including pistons you will need a L32 block. The N/A L26 has a higher compression and different rods.

All blower cars 2004+ use the L32.

What's wrong with using his? If you're buying used, you've got the same concern. Having 140,000 miles on these engines isn't a big deal. If you're doing a full rebuild anyways, then you'll be replacing any parts that could be trouble. Just use his block, and save some serious cash.

^^^What he said, there are plenty of guys with high mileage L67's (150,000+ miles) running turbo and big power and they are holding up pretty well. The L32 can only do just as well if not better than those.

His current block is fine but it would'nt hurt to rebuild.it. Now the tranny is our cars are the HUGE problem.

i would just build off it. if it is gonna go it's gonna go. (unless there reasons for NEEDING to replace it)

when i rebuilt my last one i got a used block and the only reason i rebuilt it was it had spun bearings. and it is doing fine (other than the piston i chipped)

my dd car has a 150+ mile motor and i would not hesitate to build off it. (if that was the route i wanted)

i also know a guy with a huge turbo setup with 200k+ and dd drives it and it is doing just fine (he last ran a 10.8 that i know of)

unless your going big, and i mean BIG (a large high compression setup) there should be no need to change the block insted change the trans. it will die far quicker than the motor. and if doing a top swap setup (high compression) just reuse his topend.

I have 190k+ miles on my built motor, I got the car with 60K on it and I have beat the crap out of it since and I have no problems. I break tranny parts but the motor runs like a champ

L26'S even take the abuse at higher mileage. Many of us turbo guys run them at well over double the stock horse power. 140k+ on mine and still rolling.

I didn't start modding my L67 until 120K miles :)

tell your friend to mod away to his heart's content.
