Got it taken care of.

____________

Hi all,

Long time lurker and avid reader! I really enjoy and appreciate reading everyone's insight and witty retorts!

Just a couple of things to see if I can get some assistance on.

Starting off with a little about me and my car. I have an '04 GTP Comp G. It has just over 70k miles and has a brand new TPS, a cleaned MAF, full tune-up a year and a half ago and a replaced fuel filter 200 mi ago and I'm one of the apparent many with the misfire issue at acceleration. My dad and I went halves on a simple ODB II scanner a while back and the only thing i get is a P0300 in my history. No active codes. I had my tranny replaced at the dealership about a year ago due to losing 3rd gear altogether. I have read every single post I could find regarding the misfire issue, and I'm working toward the solution based on most suggestions. I have iridium spark plugs, so I know this could have some kind of effect on these cars, so I have ordered new Taylor wires and got some 605 autolites to install. I went with one level cooler plug because when the car is cold/cooler, it seems that the misfire is not nearly as bad as it is at normal operating temp. I'm just waiting for the wires to get here and I'll do both at the same time. I figured since noone in my small town does the cryo-treat, I'd stay away from the side-gap just to prevent pre-mature failure.

One other thing to note that I noticed last night - when I drive at let's say, 55, then mash on it, I get a really bad stutter/misfire almost like a fuel issue, followed by more misfires through the power up to let's say 80. However, doing the same thing by gradually pressing the pedal down to the floor at like a "2 count" from same speed to same speed, it isn't as bad but still seem to have misfires. I immediately thought fuel issue, so I need to get my hands on a fuel pressure gauge and do a few test runs. I'm sure it's out here somewhere, but if someone knows what the pressure should be @ idle/cruise/acceleration (if any variance) I would appreciate those numbers as I did a quick search, but not exhaustive.

As far as a real-time scanner...

I don't really plan on modding much if any. I might go with some headers and a CAI eventually and possibly a aftermarket PCM (only for the more reliable fuel settings), but not much more than that.

I have been considering buying a high-end scan tool, but with the potential of possible ICM, PCM or Fuel delivery issues, and the fact that any modding I might do will include a PCM from Overkill, I really need to watch my budget during this process. I've seen a few people here using the ScanGauge and ScanGauge II and wanted to know if that may be a wise choice for non-mod to very mild modded vehicles like mine.

I really appreciate any assistance on this!

What did your problem end up being? I appear to have the same problem...

As far as my misfire issue, it was either the plugs or the wires. Put in the 605's and the taylor wires and no more misfire.

I'm Having some weird tranny shift issues now though. When I start accelerating slowly and depending on the speed, the tranny will either drop into overdrive, or it will act really sluggish then drop into a lower gear and take off like a bat out of hell... I've confirmed it's not my fuel pressure, so I'm thinking the shift points may be screwed up. Would disconnecting the battery reset my "driving style" info from the PCM?

Still considering the Overkill PCM, but not sure if it's worth it with no mods...
