my 2000 GTP will produce a light amount of smoke that comes from under the hood, it only happens when i give the pedal some love, then I usually notice it when I come to a stop. I let my car warm up. Doesn't happen all the time. Any ideas?

Possible exhaust leak? Do you hear like a ticking noise when accelerating?
I would also look into a coolant leak. The LIM gaskets are notorious for leaking. How many miles are on your car? Do you know if the LIM gasket has ever been replaced?
Also, there is a recall on the front valve cover gaskets on the supercharged models. The front valve cover gasket leaks oil onto the exhaust manifold and over time this can produce an engine fire. Many a grand prix has been set ablaze due to this problem. If you're not sure if the recall has been done, call your local dealer and give them your VIN.
You might not notice it while driving due to the moving air, but when you slow down it gives the smoke a chance to rise.

my gp has 106,000 miles on it, theres no ticking to my knowledge but i will definitely check on these things. I could take it to a local shop to get these things checked out?

My 99 GTP did that till I did the front valve cover gasket Recall. Go get the Recall done! It's free from the Dealer.

mine did that before
and its doing it again

it was my DP gasket

just let your car warmup for like 5 mins and then grap a colored flash light towards the DP under the hood and rev it from the TB wire

easiest way to tell where its coming from (well to me it was)

I called the dealer and they told me the recall had been performed on it. So I guess I'll have to look w/ that flashlight

Usually, but not always, if you have an exhaust leak it will sound like a ticking. Best thing to do is start it up, pop the hood, and listen/look for it like Samz said. So now its either an exhaust leak or possibly a coolant leak.

Sounds like front or rear valve cover oil leak, without a doubt. Small amount of oil on those hot manifolds, instant smoke...
