Well I just took my LIM off to do a valve train upgrade. Took all the parts upstairs to clean/paint them, had the LIM sitting on the table and the dog bumped it and a wrench fell on one of the orange/black rubber-plastic LIM gasket end pieces. After looking at it, the black plastic has separated a little from the rubber on the corners. I just replaced my LIM gaskets about a month ago to a new set of aluminum ones.

Questions:
1 - Can I still re-use that one end piece, and if so would I just need to use more RTV when I seal it or possibly use something to glue it back together? Not sure if super glue is acceptable for this type of repair.

2 - If it can't be re-used, do I have to buy a whole new set of LIM gaskets that I don't need just for that one piece? Or would it be available by itself or in a pair for less than the cost of a new full set, any suggestions where to find it?

Thanks for the help!

Agreed with all here. After being compressed, and going through those heat cycles, replace them anyways. The peace of mind will be WELL worth it.

On a side note, the LIM didn't need to be pulled for a valvetrain upgrade.

I replaced all of the LIM gaskets as well as the coolant elbows, which i assume i can re-use the elbows, and i will be replacing some of the stock valve train with ZZP modified 1.9 rockers, Crow Cams 105lb springs, ZZP LS1 retainers, as well as the head gaskets since i'm taking the heads off for a little cleaning and inspection while i'm at it.

You don't need to remove the LIM to install rockers/springs/retainers.

WHy are you pulling the heads? If it's not broke, don't fix it. Head gasket on a stock-mildly modded GTP is extremely rare, but once you pull the heads you open the door for failure.

The only reason i pulled the LIM this time was to get it ported/machined to go with my ported blower(100 for both, not a bad deal), and was really only thinking about the head gaskets since the mileage was high, and didn't want to take the chance of failure with increasing boost. This is my first supercharged car, and GP for that matter, and i assumed that the increased possibility of head gasket failure from higher boost was about the same as my previous turbo'd cars. But since your suggestion is to leave it alone then thy will be done ;) But as for the original purpose of my question, i just didn't want to spend the 50 or more on a new set of gaskets if i didn't have to but better to spend that now than more later in future failure yes?
Thanks for all the input guys.

How many miles are on the car? I mean if we're talking 200K or something then it might not be a bad idea but very few guys have problems with head gaskets unless there's other problems that lead to the gaskets failing.

Just out of curiosity... what does porting a S/C do? Not seeing how that would increase boost at all, but then again I'm not sure what "porting" entails with these S/C's.

But as mentioned, headgaskets on these cars will be totally fine unless you're pushing serious boost or cooked the engine for a while. Iron heads and iron block FTW!!!

It doesn't increase boost, it just make the s/c more efficient at doing its job. Some guys claim to be able to run a smaller pulley because of that, although I've never seen a ported S/C make a big difference unless a ported TB and LIM were added, and most guys don't bother with that unless their intercooling. IIRC ZZP has some charts out outlet temps or something that shows the difference between a stock gen 3 M90 and a ported one. If I can find them I'll post them.

So what part of it is actually ported. Just the underside (outlet side)?

Yeah just the V-shape of the outlet. Intense used to port the sound deadening holes as well but it's been proven that it's not a good idea to do that.

Haha, sounds like a plan. Coming back from the auto show Saturday I was driving her car and went WOT and she says "My car needs to be faster." Score!
