Most stock GP's have KR. Some more than others. If you are planning on modding, start here.

14.9 - 15.1 There have been a few that have run faster than that, but not many. Even though the 04+ models have more horsepower than previous gens, they have more torque management with makes then slower stock. Pre-gens usually ran closer to mid 14's.

the 04+ are also heavier by 100-200lbs depending on options and trim

Intense Racing has blown many 04+ engines. Many guys learned the hard way to stay away from them.

Custom tune is technically the best since every car is different and the custom tune can adjust for the differences better.

Overkill
ZZP
DHP
THose are all good generic PCM's, but like Matt said, a custom tune is the best route because every car is different. That's why I opted for my own tuner. That way I could retune with every mod I did.

^^Yeah, those 3 options are about the only thing out there for just easy non custom tunes. I personally am not a fan of ZZP's PCM since they just rape the torque management settings (Where's Dave to come and say he loves ZZP, but apparently not as much as his wife since he's selling his car).

That's what was good about the DHP PowrTuner. You got a starter file with all the basic changes including the transmission settings. From there, you tune everything else to fit your car. Overkill was part of the powrTuner community when it was still going strong. He sent me some good transmission setting to tweak mine further.

I've ran a couple of off the shelf pcms and from experience DHP was the best one I've ran. I now have my own tuner aswell. I disabled my torque management and is running a very aggressive tranny tune..... I like to live on the edge.

No zzp does not lock their pcm's-you can tweak them to your liking.
Also, i just recently purchased a zzp pcm and the torque management table's had not been touched. overall the tune was good, but it seems like they like to run the car rich to be on the safe side
