Hi All,

I don't know if I've posted on this forum before, but here goes. I have a 04 GTP CompG that I bought back in May. Prior to buying it the previous owner had the Lower Intake Manifold Gasket replaced as well as the Upper Gasket. My question to you is I've noticed what appears to be seepage on the right side of the engine above where the transmission connects into the engine. I've tried to dab it off and it is kind of crusty. My guess is maybe it was just from when it was leaking before. I also had valve covers that were seeping oil as well, but those have been replaced. All levels are in check. If oil is seeping out of the LIM would that cause the oil level to go down? My guess is its old stuff and every time the engine heats up, it just appears to be new oil and runny. Its a small space, so its nearly impossible to get in there and wipe it off. I've looked around on the other sides and it doesn't look like any oil is seeping out any where else, but again I'm not that experienced. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

OH, it has 100,600 miles on the clock. Otherwise, she's a gem! I parked next to another CompG the other day and that what looked like shit compared to mine. The previous owners of my car, must have kept her in the garage. Up North weather is going to destroy my chrome wheels. =/

Thanks Mike!

How's it goin' Eh! I spent 5 winters 99 miles away in Houghton, so I know what you are talking about.

Anyway, if you can't reach the spot you can always spray it with brake cleaner. It should remove the oil/grunge regardless what it is. Then you can see and tell if the leak is fresh or its just old gunk hanging around.

HA! Eh, we get that a lot up here in Upper Michigan.... I'd say you'd probably meet more finish people up here. Brake Cleaner really? Should I spray that while the engine is warm or wait until its cold. I don't want to start a fire. Thanks! That would really help to see if its seeping any where. That's why I asked. The only way to learn is to ask questions. Thanks

Hey there!

I had a similar issue and posted it on here a 2 weeks ago and also month or so ago. Do a search on my name and you should find some pictures. I am curious to see if your issue is in the same location as mine.

The issue I posted 2 weeks ago turned out to be a cooling manifold issue and my orginal posting was probably some oil that spilled onto the engine after getting it serviced.

I looked at your photos or at least I'm pretty sure that was the post. My stuff is on that same side. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the LIM again GRR. I have bad luck. I had a 98 Grand Am with the 3.1 and I had to replace that gasket twice on that. At least the first time it was fixed I didn't pay for it. I will get the brake cleaner and see if thats the issue. I may just be old gunk pretending to be new gunk. This Photobucket link is of the location. You can sort of see the oil/gunk down in there below where the exhaust pipe runs by.

Ahh Yes, Houghton..they get LOTS of snow. Marquette a fair share. =)

I added one more photo of mine. It must be crud from when they did the job before. I suppose when the car heats it up it pretends to be new stuff when its not. I sprayed some brake cleaner on there and she didn't budge, indicating that its probably old grime. And my oil level is good. It goes in on Wednesday to have the Coolant system breathed and some added. Had some gurgling sounds. Perhaps, they can just peak and tell me if its actual seepage or not. I'll keep you posted.

Hey there,

I think that may be in the same location as my cooling manifold gasket issue was. This manifold gasket was on the side of the engine block , just below the throttle body. There are two small bolts that hold the manifold on and it is about 2" long. Mine was seeping and I replaced it and no problems since. ZZP has a gasket for I think $3 or the dealer has one for $9....in case that is what the issue was.

Good luck!

Hey there,

oh yea.......Go to the following link - GM Service Manual and take a look at items 529, 530, 531 (Engine Coolant Manifold) and see if this is where your leakage may be coming from.

UPDATE: I have oil leaking in 2 spots. =/ The Intake Manifold Gasket is seeping again. I also have a leak in the Rear Main Seal. Good times. The estimate at the garage I had the coolant stuff taking care of was for $1300 for both jobs. I'm trying to work with the originally garage back in May that did the LIM. It's only been 4 months and 4,000 miles. It shouldn't be leaking already. We will see, I guess.
