found that when I changed my oil in DEC
Image
and this but got told it was prolly just condensation from the car sitting for so long and not getting fully warmed up
Image
ignored it till this weekend when this happened
Image
it died on the main drag 10 blocks from the house got it pushed off to the side of the road and came back for it later with a buddy with his truck. Knew it was F***** and so took it home. tore into it yesterday and found this
Image
so now I am grabbing a local l36 block since there is no local l67 blocks for anything near reasonable. fell into a deal with the zzp h/l cam in it for next to nothing all the parts were NIB. that will go in and the heads will be dremel ported to match the gaskets, the lim will be gasket matched, sc is ported and will be getting used, and the TB is ported and will be used. the one thing I am not sure on is what valve springs to use ls1 would seem to be enough for a cam that is smaller then the s1x and still cheap. the other little things will be pems and 3 in dp and res delete. I am not looking at ungodly pulley sizes either I think a 3.6 or 3.8 will be ordered for the mps that is on the extra snout I have.
all the parts will be wire brushed clean and shiny then I will finish gutting the interior and call it a day and see if I cant pull a 13.9 at 3k ft altitude

I figure 300 chp or better gutted DD is nothing to complain about she may be ugly but who cares she still gives ls1s runs for their money. the great thing is you can barely hear the cam from the video i have seen.

Stock L67/L32: 182/192 .258/.258 115 N/A

ZZP HL/GPS L67 Cam 2: 206/218 .320/.330 115 N/A
for reference on the size of the new cam seems fairly exhaust biased which seems good from what I heard

That sucks, atleast you got a replacement heart, next time be alot more careful when youve got a thrown rod, they are known to shread metal to get out of the hole. Be thankful you dont have an aluminum block. atleast I hope its not aluminum, not sure on the GS's

well the story of the tear down goes like this with pics
it blew up got it home started the tear down
first on the list after the fuel rails were removed with the injectors and the o rings on them were destroyed
the supercharger... rotors look good for 167k. it took a pry bar to dislodge the D*** thing
Image
may not really see it but there is a nice coating of rtv or some sort of sealant that got smeared on the whole gasket
Image
this was the only section that I could peel off
after inspecting the charger I found this now WTF is that in the coolant passage?
Image
now on to the lim you can see that some sort of gasket material was smeared over some of it. also the lovely thing I found was the coolant o ring was in the shape of a figure 8 with the sealant holding it in it's shape.
Image
pulled it off and the gaskets had that same sealant material crap smeared liberally all along the sides. pictures kinda stopped for a bit and the front head came off
Image
front bank of pistons looked fine but look at that nasty lifter valley.
Image
another shot of the lifter valley.
Image
shot of the rear pistons
Image
it now looks like this
Image
for those who have played with heads I was way surprised how good these heads looked the heads I bought off a 2001 gtp were horrible and the casting flash is a lot less on these too
for comparison my lifter valley in the 03 at 60k or so
Image

as you can see it is old iron block and ya if there is a next time I will have a spare built on the side so I am not in this situation again part of me wants to stroke one and run that with forged setup

Whoever had the car before you blocked off the coolant passage holes that go up to the TB. Nothing major, you can leave it like that or unplug it if you really wanted to.

I know it is not a huge deal just it looks like it was sludged up not necessarily blocked intentionally besides a complete different case is going on and is fully ported

been doing some work when i can on it and this is a progress vid of the gutting work. The front panels will be gone too but will have sheet metal handles welded on by a buddy. the seats will be replaced with gtp seats. carpet will be stripped out and the floor will have roll on bed liner instead of carpet that should drop 15 lbs or so. the center console is a B**** to get out and fairly heavy for what it is. all said and done I want to strip it out and then take it and get it weighed lol. I think with all that has been done i will have easily 200+ dropped out of it. the front bumper support will have the foam material removed also. headers are on the way and that should drop 5 lbs or so and the rusty res will be deleted and straight-piped in its place. i will be getting the f body setup for brakes which if i remember right is like a lb or 2 reduction. all non essential wiring will be removed. and the sub will be the only thing that stays in the trunk until race day. to make removal easier i will get some threaded rod and replace the torx head bolts that hold the passenger seat down and have them welded in and a nut to make removal quick and easy. I think that the only other thing i will add to the car is tint to save my eyes and make the gutted wonder less apparent. The other thing i will add is spring blockers in the rear.

Now... updates

Image
The carpet was a royal pain to get out. the next step is scuff the metal and prep it for truck bedliner. heading to harbor freight in the AM to get the gun that I can use for it and the ceramic coating for the headers.

now for the debate in my head should I keep the power gtp seats or swap the power and manual frames from the passenger gs seat to the gtp seat. doing that alone should save 10 or so lbs.
I am going to the yard and stripping the sensors off the l36 tomorrow since today didnt cooperate. left work to a rain snow mix not a great way to pull parts in the mud.

now for car guy pron lol
Image
ssac headers fast shipping and seems like a great product for the price. all the pieces are starting to fall into place, I cant wait

as it sat when I got it
Image
the other side
Image
pretty trans lol
Image
581 cubic inches of buick power lol
Image
top with the fuel rails and such removed
Image
upper and TB removed
Image
lim removed
Image
now the trans pan off the old 99 I highly doubt it had been serviced in the 167k life. if you look at the magnet you can see where I swiped my finger and you can see the build up on either side.
Image
had a buddy that was helping and hit it with a wire wheel then I took and finished the areas he didnt get. all nice and shiny now lol
Image
finally going back together slowly.
Image
misc crap that will be either thrown out or put in storage.
Image
lots of misc crap that I will be selling it is all the extra stuff from the l36
I will say that having 2 buddies helping you get the car together makes alot of progress alot quicker. the car went from sitting on the road to having the trans fluid dropped and then got the the interior cleaned out and vaccumed then the seat dropped in and pushed up next to the garage then the heads unbolted on the l36. All I really got to get done is cam swap, filter adapter swapped from h to wbody, pull the old setup aka pull the axles and lift out then swap the needed parts. after that it is make sure it is all cleaned and looking good before it all goes together in the 99. The biggest thing is I am waiting on the an6 line since the old ones are rusted to hell.
and befriended a guy to do tint for free wooohoooo

Ah, the first video - It's just a tick, it'll go away ... lol :D

The magnet on my trans pan looked that bad when I changed my filter at 90K

goodbye egr my buddy does good work looks factory

as for the heads, some of you knew I had l32 valves sitting around which r oversized for the l67 heads. I contacted the local guy that is supposedly the "go to guy" for any machine work and he said to clearance the heads for .600 lift, surface it all and set the valve spring height to 1.8 and then 3 angle valve job the heads and set the valves in and fully assemble for 300 dollars. for me that works fairly well price wise. now the reason for all the work I will be running 1.8 rr and the cam for a total lift of .576/.594 so this will breathe really well. after that I have a deal in the works that i will port some heads not the machine work for a gen v IC so top that good of a breathing setup with a cool charge setup like that it should move out nicely.
