So my gf's 00 GTP had some smoke come up from the front valve cover twice, the two instances being a few weeks apart. Thinking it's the LIM, but it hasn't smoked for 2-3 weeks now and we've been keeping an eye on the oil to see if anything coolant has been leaking internally...nothing. Oil looks fine. I was planning on replacing the LIM but is there something else I should look at before pulling the engine apart. Either something to make sure it's the LIM or something else that would cause a similar diagnosis as a LIM leak?

As far as I can remember, no. I haven't personally looked in like a week. I'll be looking Saturday.

Took a look today and she saw some S/C oil sitting above the front valve cover. No coolant leaking/smoke/milky oil or anything like that. So with that, i'm going to go ahead and guess that the S/C gasket is leaking.

The supercharger gasket does not hold any oil in. The oil is contained in the snout. Either the snout is leaking around the bolts that hold it to the casing, the fill plug is leaking, or the breather nut on the end of the snout is leaking.

No, it should have a thin bead of sealant.

Ok, thanks for the info. I suppose that would make sense, lol.

Had it run for a while today and no coolant on the dipstick. A small amount of smoke came from where the S/C oil was found.

So when I get the car in the garage. I'll pull the snout off and put a new bead of sealant on it. Does that sound like a good idea? If so, what are the torque specs for the snout?

Pretty unlikely that the snout just starting losing oil all of a sudden, silicone does not typical wear down or blow out like gaskets. I would for sure double check the upper & lower intake gaskets or valve cover gaskets for leaks...

Is there any possible way to check those gaskets without pulling the top half of the engine apart? That'd be a lot of work to look at the gaskets and find that they're fine and have to replace them anyway.

Just simply look for visible leakage around the edges. If there is nothing visible, they are most likely good...

If you think that it is suoercharger oil then take out the fill plug in the snout and look to see what the level is at. It should be right at the bottom of the threads of the fill plug.

If you want to check out the supercharger/LIM gaskets then start the car up and lightly spray something like brake kleen or starter fluid over the area. If the idle of the car changes (usually sounds smoother) then you know you have a leak.

Will external leaks still show up if the coolant is leaking internally?

Saw some white foamy stuff on the bottom of the oil cap, would this be coolant mixing in with the oil?

It just seems weird to me that it would leave some foam on the oil cap but not show up at all on the dipstick.
