The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system is used to reduce the amount of nitrogen oxide emission levels caused by combustion temperatures exceeding 1,500°F. It does this by introducing small amounts of exhaust gas back into the combustion chamber. The exhaust gas absorbs a portion of the thermal energy produced by the combustion process and thus decreases combustion temperature. The EGR system will only operate under specific temperature, barometric pressure and engine load conditions in order to prevent driveability concerns and to increase engine performance.

If you want to remove it, then you will need to modify the PCM to ignore the EGR valve's readings...

Correct, you will probably lose a bit of gas mileage...

EGR is smoking ciggarettes for your engine. EGR is only there so its harder to change the rear spark plugs.

i kid, but its more or less something you can get rid of and wont miss.

and i didnt lose any mpg's at all when i deleted my EGR...

yeah i changed out the o2 sensor and reset the codes, (apparently just clearing them via aeroforce isnt enough) and now my car loves me again.

Yeah. I actually set my PCM to turn on the EGR at a coolant temp that it will never reach. I didn't lose any fuel mileage, either.

and just block it off. the engine bay is much cleaner with it removed.

Yup. It will keep the carbon buildup off of the insides of the blower and LIM.
