Ok im new to this forum and trying to find a misfire with my 98 GP GTP. A code comes up for a cylinder 3 misfire and you can feel it when stopped at a red light and i can feel it more when i take my foot off the brake in drive and just let it roll forward. But, hears the catch, its only at idle...when it gets above 1k rpm there is no sign of a misfire i don't feel any bogging down hear and hard knocks or anything...that's even the case if its parked and i rev it. Currently i have replaced the ICM (which gave out one day i replaced it and the #3 misfire was still there) the coil to 3 and 6 is brand new all plugs are brand new as well as the wires are new. I have swapped injectors around and it doesn't move just stays on #3. I am currently trying to get some money in so i can go buy a compression test kit so i can run a test on it because a few friends of mine said it could be a burnt valve. My other question is if it is a burnt valve wouldn't that be a constant misfire? Not just at idle? Any info, suggestions, and advice is always appreciated!

Hmm.... odd. The compression test is a good idea.

Yeah it looks like i may be able to get the kit within the next few days but...once i test it and say it does loose compression on the cylinder basicly do i just pull the head off and hope for the best or is there anything else i can do before taking it off to know for sure what it is?

If theres a compression issue you'll likely have to start taking things apart. what kind of condition are your plugs and wires in? That could play a role as well.

This is a long shot, but you could have got a bad plug maybe??? I was just having misfires at higher rpm's on cylinder 3, and it turned out to be a bad plug.

That's kind of what I was hitting on. Although this is at low RPMs from what the OP said. It could still be a plug or wire issue, that's why I asked how long it had been.

well, he said his coils, wires, and plugs are all brand new, so they must be good!

Oops. That's what I get for getting the basic summary. Dumbass moment on my part.

yeah all of that is brand new iv also swapped injectors around to see if it moved but it didnt. In the case of a bad plus it did it with the old plugs i had in there and didnt change so not sure if it could be that. One guy i talked to last night said it sounds like its gatta be electrical so he said it could be the pcm but who knows...still have to do a compression test to be sure though. This will be the first time iv done a compression test so any pointers or tips? i know to unplug al wires and injectors (or just dicconect the pcm for the plugs)
