You broke a bolt or something else inside the hole?

I would be worried about metal shavings getting in there.

And you need an EGR to pass? Really? I pass NYS inspection without it, just have my code deleted. Do you guys have visual inspections?

Yes, you can run with it unplugged.

I have mine completely removed

What sort of material was the tap you broke? If it wasn't too hard of a metal you could try a bolt extractor. If nothing else, just unplug it/remove EGR completely, delete the codes, and if you really want to be safe "hook it back up" for visual inspection and by hook it up, I mean just sort of throw it in there and make it look like it bolts up to the LIM and is "plugged in."

There are plenty of ways to extract bolts. If you're asking though you probably aren't of that skill level. Hell it's been a while since I've been in the construction field so to be completely honest I probably don't have the skills either anymore. If they do a visual inspection it won't pass but if they don't then get the codes deleted and do what you need. However I would not go drilling new holes in the LIM if I were you.

If you're talking about just that little bolt that holds the pipe/plate on and not the actual stovepipe for the EGR passageway, then no it's not under vacuum or pressure. I won't drill any holes either since if you go too far you might go into the coolant passageways and then you'll have metal shavings and a leak.

I'm quite surprised no one has asked yet why you were trying to tap that hole in the first place
