The vs is a good cam to run on a completly stock valvetrain, ie.... valve springs, lifters, etc. It makes more mid-range power and doesn't change the idle. X-P cam makes more topend power and cannot be ran on stock valve springs. It adds a noticeable lope to the exhaust but it's nothing to radical. I'm running the X-P and is satisfied with it. It is very streetable and adds alot of power and I love the lope from the exhaust. On ZZP's site it says the increase over stock with the VS is 35-50hp and with the X-P it's 40-55hp increase.

dthreap runs a VS cam and it's a good cam for a daily driver.

i daily drove a xp for 3 years and 1 winter

the minimum i would get is 105 springs and modded retainers and at least a brand new stock chain and tentioner

i had my idle set to a rediculously stupid low RPM too lol 650 rpm car sounded mean at idle

It is. One of my friends run a VS in his daily driven GP, and he loves it. It also runs consistant mid-12 second passes.

like milestone, i know someone that did that for years.. and for the record there is a lope difference in idle with a vs over stock. it is just not as radicle as the xp. i personally have run the xp for several summers now and i love it. (but i have thought about going bigger too like a nic.)

for a smother idle ( less shake at stoplights and such) the vs is a good cam for not NEEDING supporting items and still haveing good midrange usable power.

the s1x cam is another smaller cam to consider too.

You are aware of the install process as well right? Just don't want you to buy a cam and say, or crap, I don't know how to install this thing then have to pay more in labor to install than the cam was since you're so concerned with money... enough to not even want to run premium gas

Imho i dont think installing a cam is for you. Due to the difficulty of installation, or the price of having someone else doing it for you. Also a cam will affect your fuel mileage. I would suggest to you a set of rockers. They will give you the affect of a very mild cam, way easier to install, and don't cost as much as a cam.

The xp is the best dd cam. There isn't that much lope. Sounds close to stock to me. But my other car has a nic in it. Id never waste money on a vs. If your going that far to cam, might as well go with a xp. Also you can run a ls6 spring with a stock timing chain instead of a 105 spring. Just don't rev the crap out of it.
