Good day,

We all know that there are many brand name CAIs and home grown CAIs in an effort to bring more cooler air into the engine. One of the big questions out there is which CAI is best? Some are more like open cone style and others have an insulated box. What I want to know is just how important is it to have cooler air versus ambient air temp in the engine compartment? Does anyone have real data to support all of this?....beyond the brand name manuf data , which is probably skewed. I mean I have a K&N CAI and it gets rather warm without having any insulation around it and the Wizaired has a insulated box, but just how much insulation does that design really provide?... who knows? Is there an optimum temperature range or min threshold for the air through an intake that will offer better engine performance?

These are just some questions milling around my head and trying to figure out what reality is :)

Thanks.

another good option is the drop in K&N filter for the stock air box then modify the box to suck in air from the fender well, that will provide the most bang for the buck

The CAI intakes like the Wizair really help focus the air from the fender well into the box. This control over were the air is grabbed from by the open cone I can't help but think it helps.

The open cone no doubt grabs some of the air focused up from the fender well, but some from the hot engine bay.

The fact is colder air does equal more power.

I did all the footwork for you guys. Open cone seems to make at least, if not more power than a "CAI" box. And you save $150 to put toward real mods.

Why buy something sensible with a RWD setup when you can build something really stupid, like this
