Good day,

I have an 04 GTP Comp G and last weekend I installed a CAI and since then have noticed some engine noise that may not be typical of a CAI install. It is understood that I will get some differing noises, more air sucking into the filter, more supercharger whine..etc than I had with my stock filter. The noise does not occur at idle or when I gun the engine in park and not at cruising speeds. It only happens during certain moments during acceleration and to me sounds like a diesel engine. Once I get past that point in acceleration, all seems normal.

I took a small video that provides some audible feedback. I go through two accelerations and on the second one, listen for what sounds like a throaty exhaust.

www.youtube.com Video from : www.youtube.com

This exhaust sound is coming from the CAI area underhood and not my exhaust. I am not experienced enough to know if this is typical for a CAI install. I guess I was Not expecting that "rough" sounding intake and it sounds like it is gasping for air. I retightend all the clamps on the CAI and it did help reduce the severity of the noise, but it is still there.

You will need to turn up the volume to hear the engine as I took this video with my Blackberry.

Please let me know your thoughts. This noise was not present prior to the CAI and it is probably normal for a CAI install based upon what others have written, but I just want to make sure and this seems to be the best way to do that.

Thank You

Does it sound like there's rocks in it? That's perfectly normal. Almost all CAIs do that. I have no idea why. I should take a vid of mine at idle, you'll REALLY hear it.

Hmmmm rocks? haha!! :) I suppose it could sound like rocks to someone. Did you check the video out. you really have to turn the volume up to hear the noise.

It sounds more like a diesel engine. It does not sound like a performance mod and that is the frustrating part to me.

I did check the video, actually, and it did sound normal to me. I tried posting about 6 hours ago but for some reason it disappeared... Maybe I never hit submit?

Well....Sorry for all the postings, but I had to get an understanding if the noise was normal. I feel a sense of relief that someone else has the same noise.......until the next project.....rear door rattlle!

I agree! Let the throaty sound of a cat-back drown out the sound in the engine compartment :)

Here's a vid I made of mine. Doesn't sound right because the car isn't in drive, but you can hear what I mean by rocks.

Hey there!

I will need to replay the video and crank up the sound in the morning because I really did not hear anything odd. I know it is hard to prove weird noises! :) My noise only occurs when the car is moving. I can have the car running and sitting in my garage and then gun the engine and all I hear is the SC. When the car is on the road and slowly gun the engine, the noise occurs. It seems to occur more when the car is under a load of some sort....like going up a hill. It is like the intake is trying to decide how much air it needs before the SC kicks in hard.

Who knows!

My car with the 1.9RR's sounds worse then that. I can pull up beside a 5.0 Mustang and I sound louder even before I have the S/C screaming. I kinda like that beefy sound.

Mods plus the fact that I put the microphone inside my Wizard CAI. That is what it really sounds like inside the CAI. I have another run on an interstate onramp that overdrives the mic. It couldn't handle the whine of the blower.

Someone did a few dyno runs with a cold air intake and an open cone and the numbers were pretty much identical. They do sound different though.
