Haven't really been active at all (no money to do stuff) but I went to change my spark plugs today while it was slow at work. While doing that I broke something off of the top of the engine. The pic is below.

If you need a visual of where we're talking about here's an overview

It looks too fragile to be imperative, but every part has a purpose. Will it be safe to drive with this broken until I get it replaced? Is it as easy to replace as it looks? Thanks for the advice.

If you can find a way to plug it, that would be best. I broke that piece while installing my headers and was able to jbweld it back together temporarily. Otherwise you will be driving with a big vacuum leak.

How powerful is the vacuum? I'm sure I can find something here since I work at an airline. Also, just how bad would it be to drive it the 15 miles home?

Yeah, it is something you're gonna have to replace. It is the vac tree for a lot of the intake and blower system. You need it. You'll be fine to drive home...don't get on it, though.

Yes. In and out. No big deal.

IIRC, those are 10mm bolts that hold it in.

If you can't find a used one, Comp nine's site lists it as GM part# 24503488 MANIFOLD,VAC SCE
It should be available from the GM dealer or http://www.shopgmparts.com

It's also available from ZZP: Eaton blower booster cap
