I haven't had this apart yet, but I know that when you pull the balance shaft, you have to plug the rear bearing oil feed. Can the bearing simply be rotated? Would it be advisable to use a new bearing? Ultimately, what's the best way to do this?

Your correct.

If the balance shaft is removed, that leaves a oil port open on the back side that must be plugged.

I have heard of some removing the bearing, and reinstalling it so the hole is not blocked, but I have heard by some the have lower oil pressure, cause its leaking by.

I have heard of some installing a soft plug into the bearing, or removing the bearing, and installing it in the hole. I have also head of some having the plug work its way out, and they loose oil pressure, and trash their engine.

I have heard of some mixing up some JB Weld, and packing as much as they can into the hole, and letting it dry. Lot of times, they do not degrease the hole, and the "patch" does not stick and it comes out, or allows leak by and either they have low oil pressure, or when it goes, they have no, and it takes out the engine.

The only sure bet, is the tried and trued method of pulling the engine, removing the back cover, drilling the oil passage to size, tapping it, and installing a plug totally sealing it off completely.

I have designed, and actually developed a performance part to eliminate the need to pull the engine to seal this off. You can do it from the top side when the LIM is off, and the shaft is removed. Its in the testing stages right now. I thought of the idea around 7 years ago, built it about 2 years ago, still being used to this day...but improving what I have created before I offer them for sale to others.

Good. If you want another "BETA" tester, I'd be willing to do it. Got an engine that I'm gonna work over for the Cutty, and the balance shaft is gonna be removed, so this is good info to have.

I will for sure keep you in mind. I have one tester local here now, and things are looking good, so might pick 4 or 5 others to do some prototype testing.

i just might be down for being a tester as well. LMK. sounds like a cool idea, something that we could really use.
