Good day!

Awhile back I posted a picture of an area on my engine block that I thought may have a leak and the consensus was that it should be ok and to watch for it. Well, while I was looking at that area, I saw another area that has me concerned. Attached is the picture and I do not recall seeing this before. I have been getting whiffs of antifreeze for awhile now and when I rubbed my finger against this area and took a sniff, it smells like antifreeze. But maybe I am just paranoid? LOL

Any thoughts? It sure does seem like an unusual area to have a spill of some sort...so....what could this be?

The coolant in the recovery bottle seems to be right on the line towards the bottom of the bottle. Which is ok according to the manual.

Any help would be appreciated!

Perhaps it's that little door thing on the LIM.

It's that bulb thing underneath the EGR block off plate. It leaked on my GF's GP and looked similar to the pic you posted. It would only leak a couple drops though so the level never really seemed to change in her tank. Just a thought.

hey there! Thanks!

So this could be the issue. How was the issue fixed? Should I have major concern?

and what is a LIM?

Thanks for your help!

LIM = lower intake manifold. Sits right underneath your supercharger or the upper intake manifold in the non boosted cars.
I fixed it by taking the throttle body off, removing the crossover pipe (2 bolts in front that go to the front manifold and 2 in the back for the collector in the rear manifold plus 2 nuts that hold on a heat sheild on the rear) and then just unbolted that little piece and put RTV gasket maker around the edges and popped it back on and it's been fine since. They do actually make gaskets for it, but I couldn't find any and needed to get the car back together asap. When that piece is removed a fair amount of coolant will leak out though, so that will need to be topped off after everything is back together.

As for major concern... I wouldn't worry about it then again I drive a car that likes to leave little puddles of coolant everywhere it goes (darn you oil cooler O-ring!!!!). It might be a good idea to at least watch it and make sure it doesn't get worse.

Great info thank you!

So.....
Why would they have such a thing like an access door type opening in the LIM??
What could be the purpose?

to leak and cause me a headache? :)

It's something for the coolant bypass or routing or something like that. When I looked up the part number it just says engine coolant manifold and engine coolant manifold gasket, but I really don't know what it does.

hey there!

I have confirmed that that is the issue. I reached my hand underneath the engine cooling manifold and it was a bit moist with coolant. So that is it!

How hard was it to take off the crossover pipe? Man....mine looks locked on with rust! :(

Looks like PB Blaster time.....

Any other advice?

Thanks!

Here is the gasket if you don't want to use RTV.

Wish I would have just picked one up from ZZP when doing the LIM gasket change so I didn't have to use RTV. Maybe someday I'll get it and put it on.

The cross over isn't too bad, but yeah let those bolts soak in PB big time.

I am just lucky.....I guess...
:)

I am starting to hate my car....but I always come back!

I am shocked the my temp gauge has not reflected the loss of coolant by showing higher temperatures.
....but I can sure smell coolant after I come home and open the hood. Not a strong odor, but noticeable.
