Hello, every since i installed my pacesetter headers and broke my booster cap and bbv, my car has seemed like its been making little to no boost. The boost gauge on my comp g shows full boost very easily, but i can not hear the supercharger like i used to. Also, when getting on the gas, it seems sort of laggy. I thought at first it was just the cap and bbv, but since i replaced them it still seems the same. I also thought that since its much colder outside, the supercharger gets quiter, but wouldn't it get louder with colder denser air? I cleaned my throttle body the other day too, and it was extremely gunky but its nice and shiny now. Could this be a major issue with the supercharger? If so how can i check to see if its the problem? Thanks

A supercharger doesn't get quieter when something is wrong with it, if anything, the bearing or coupler going bad would make it sound like there's rocks being tossed around inside you s/c.

By installing headers, you have reduced backpressure and made your engine more efficient. You will not be making as much boost now, but that's ok because you can make more power, more safely, on less boost. You can either drop pulley sizes with a tune, or advance your timing to make more power.

As for the whine, do you have a cold air intake?

No unfortunately i still have the stock box... well, the only cold air intake i have is -20C air, lol. I have tried listening to the supercharger to see if the coupler is bad, but it does not sound like marbles in a tin can, it seems fine. I have a tuned pcm which hopefuly will be here this week, and then im going to gift myself with an aeroforce for christmas hopefully to make sure i don't have any Kr or other problems before i drop a pulley size or two in the spring. Just as a side note, the supercharger has 200k on it if that makes any difference, and the oil in it was supposedly changed when i got the car at around 180k. I'm wondering if i still have a vacuum leak somewhere too, its just strange how the boost meter goes up so quickly now. Before i could really hear the supercharger screaming, and now all i see is the bars max out on the gauge and pretty well no sound :(

I'm sorry, but if you have a stock intake, you have never heard your supercharger scream. Get a cold air intake or make one for $40 even. Then you will hear the S/C.

www.youtube.com Video from : www.youtube.com

Go to 1:35 in this video. You can hear my S/C over my exhaust which was extremely loud (TOG headers, not cat, borla full catback)

-- Mon Dec 13, 2010 7:14 pm --

You're not going to get that whining sound with a stock airbox. It intentionally has silencers built in to make the s/c more or less inaudible.

Haha, well maybe it didn't "scream" like yours, but it was audible :P I have been planning on making an intake for a while now, but i have heard its not a great idea to have on in wintertime. Is this true? If not, i will make one or order one this weekend, only issue i have is the MAF kind of complicates things. If i make one what kind of tubing and couplers would you reccomend? 4 Inch would be the size, and i suppose i would need an angled piece as well. Probably as big of a K&N filter i can get, or are those "spectre" ones at canadian tire good enough? Thanks

A lot of guys make intakes out of the Spectre filters and silicone couplers. Having an intake on in the winter is fine, by the way.

Just wait till you get an intake on. Then you'll hear the s/c fo' real. And you won't be able to stop doing this ---> :D

I put a Fender Well intake in my base model and so i dont get a whine but i can vouch for sound differences. People say it sounds like i put a flowmaster in when i get on it now lol.....altho in park it still sounds whiny and raspy. I think the belts like the whine on mine. Building one will cost only like 40 bucks but atleast for me it was a pita.

haha, i do :D already, so im lookin forward to it. Ive been keeping my eye out for silicon couplers, but haven't seen any yet. Im gonna stop by the parts source tommorow and check out the situation, hopefully pick up a filter too. I guess regular 4 inch hose clamps would work too?, although they might make it look somewhat sketchy. Would PVC pipe work too?

Cool, ive been reading up on those fenderwell intakes too, but my fender fills up with snow and salt it seems so thats pretty much out of the question :P I like the idea behind it though.

Yeah, a lot of guys use PVC pip to build their intakes. And hose clamps are the way to go, cheap and effective.

3.5" pulley, 1.84 Rockers, Wizaired CAI.

Oh, and I put the microphone inside the CAI.
I wanted a pure SC sound for the movie soundtrack that I could mix into the rest of the scene.

LMFAO i thought something was up with that.... I hope to put on a 3.5 this spring, and maybe some rockers. I like the Wizaired and Thrasher intakes, but there pretty pricey, but they certainly look much better than any intake i could make.

The wizaired intake is probably the best you can buy.

It's still a good bit louder than Kyle's video, even when the mic is not in the CAI. The SC sound was very noticeable in the carjack scene, however as the car shoots past the camera to escape, the sound was lost as it sped off behind the camera because the mics were facing in the opposite direction. I needed that clean sound to fill that hole.

I actually have another take where the SC sound was so loud, it overpowered the mic and distorted really bad.

Gen V M90's are louder and sound better than the Gen 3, for sure.

We originally we're going to sell them ourselves on the internet and by point of sale, however, since the final product came out a lot better than expected, we've been holding off selling them ourselves while we run it past distributors. My business partner has a meeting tomorrow with a guy that should be able to point us in the right direction.

the clip blackwood has is just well damn..

the loudest i have heard mine was with a 3.0, hai (short tube, with big cone filter), and no hood on the car.

the best i have heard sounded not to far off from blackwoods vid. and was real a buddy of mine had his motor let loose (12.5 and he broke well before the finish line) and i had his car on the trailer taking him home and where talking about how loud the one guys blower was and about about a min later he pulled up beside us and nailed it.. and man i tell ya i have not heard another blower louder than that gen V with a 2.55.. it literally hurt the ears..

This is my 04 comp g with a 9" K&N intake. When I put on the 3.6 for a short amount of time the whine was very loud.

you guys should hear a cobalt ss with a tiny pulley. The new M62 is crazy loud (and more effiecient than a gen3 m90). I'm not leghumping cobalt ss's either, I hate mine lol.

www.youtube.com Video from : www.youtube.com

That's on a 2.7" pulley. Someone posted a video of the whine on a 2.5" but I can't find it.

Shoot, an intake in the winter just makes things louder. Love it!!!!! No whine out of my humble little N/A, obviously (some day it will have an S/C though), but cold starts make the car sound like a tornado under the hood.

But yeah, you are missing out on half the fun of a S/C if you can't hear that darn thing whine like a pig.
