Hey Guys. I'm new here but one of my friends that some of you may know, Bob Wessel, told me I should post up here with a new idea we are trying to make reality.

As of January 1, 2011 I will be starting my new company, who's goals are to put on show and race events built for car folks by car folks. We are also going to be getting into the public relations/personal marketing side of the auto industry as I have a good history of putting cars and companies together and helping make cool projects.

We were thinking about larger car societies that don't have many national or bigger events that deserve and desire one. Bob, being a former GTP owner, suggested that the Grand Prix/GTP crowd might be interested in having another major show or race event that would be affordable and fun for those attending.

My questions for you are these....

1) Would you be interested in a new event, likely held in the Midwest somewhere?
2) Would you prefer a race event, show event or a combination of both?
3) Would you prefer a single day or multiple day event?
4) What do you look for in an event that we could incorporate to make more people likely to come? (Doesn't mean we'll use everything but it's good to ask :) )

In the past I have put on both race and show events, and been to a few hundred of each as well, so I have a good idea of what works and what fails.

Any and all input is accepted and appreciated.

Thanks,
Ryne Hoover

1) YES! KCIR would be a great track for this event, its in the middle of the country and NHRA/IHRA approved. Families could bring their kids and go to worlds of fun which I don't think is too far away.
2&3) A combo of both could draw a larger crowd. Even maybe get a Dyno on Friday night for the early arivers, and drag/show saturday or sunday for either. Camping out would be a good cost effective solution to getting a hotel if a park could be found near by.
4) Not limiting the event to just grand prixs. Maybe an all 3800 event, or a W-body VS F-body event. Also if it were for a good cause, say a portion of the proceeds go to cancer research or a childrens hospital more people are likely to come.

Here is a basic event concept we have been working on. What do you think about this?

Drag Racing event open to any General Motors car that was ORIGINALLY equipped with a 4 or 6 cylinder production engine, except those that also had a V8 option. This rule will be read as to exclude ANY truck or SUV.
The only exceptions to this rule will be:
-2008-2009 Pontiac G8
-2005-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix
-Any car that ORIGINALLY had a 4 or 6 cylinder production engine, but has had a V8 engine swapped in to replace the original engine
-Any race car manufactured to look like a General Motors vehicle, that is powered by a 4 or 6 cylinder engine that is directly based off a General Motors 4 or 6 cylinder production engine, will be allowed in.

Hoping to have at least 5 classes, including AT LEAST 1 heads-up class.

Cash prizes and trophies for races

Special awards for like "Fastest car driven to event", "Fastest Cobalt", "Best Appearing"

This is the basic idea we have started with and it will continue to grow from here.
