As the title says, what do you guys think would cause this? The oil wasn't milky white or foamy or anything like that.. but when I did my oil change today, the very last few drops had white shit in it, so I let it drip for a while. I did a seafoam earlier in the month if you think it could have had anything to do with it....

The PCV on the F150's are actually attached (molded) to the inside of the valve cover? and wired that way. To replace the PCV I would have to replace the entire valve cover, and that would be around $300 for that one side. Here's a great big f*ck you! to ford.

Driving for only short periods of time can also cause this since it's not letting the moisture boil off especially if it's really humid (or snowy in your case).

Yes. That god forsaken piece of shit...

Awesome things I've found so far the need fixing that cost a LOT of money...

1. Spark plugs. $1200ish
2. Cam Phazers. $1000ish
3. PCV "Valve". $300ish
4. Transmission will pretty much go out for sure..

^ It's 300 for the job, and another 100 and change per plug that breaks off. I have over 100K on the clock, pretty much all 8 are guaranteed to break off... Another awesome ford design flaw. Didn't know about this problem with the trucks until AFTER I bought it..

Plugs are only like 20 bucks lol

Oh yeah yeah yeah, now it makes sense. I forgot that the plugs like to fubar the threads in the head. There isn't some sort of lawsuit against ford or recall yet? As you can tell I'm out of the Ford loop.

^ They "fixed" it by putting anti-seize on the plugs from the factory starting in 06. Any kind of suits against them were always thrown out.

-- Wed Jan 12, 2011 11:31 pm --

And they posted a TSB. Woo Rah.

I'd ditch the truck and get something else haha. That sucks man. But yeah, taking lots of short trips can cause that as well.

yeah, we have several of them at work .... they are GARBAGE.... all of them have same issues .... they all puke Oil from the back of the head gaskets and love to shoot out spark plugs ... there is a Kit available from Napa Autoparts for that , its like a re-tap kit for it. Oh and don't get me started on the wonderful Coil Over Plug set up they have .... one of those start going back its a pig to figure out which coil is giving an issue. Also thanks to Ford's Cab Over design its makes it nearly impossible to change said plugs and if you need to take the top end apart for some reason ... might as well pull the engine

Ford maybe the best selling truck in america but i bet its probably one of the most expensive to maintain and keep on the road also! Chevy trucks are claimed to be the longest lasting on the road, but im sure thats due to the fact that parts are dime a dozen and most of all older parts are interchangable. i have an 95 f-150 (pre lightining odd ball with a 5.0) and its nothing but a money pit!! especially since almost everything that has needed to be replaced needed special ordered through the dealership. Damn Fords

Not too sure what you mean by that. Sounds like the truck is a money pit to me. I'd get rid of it and get something that the spark plugs don't cost $1200 to change in. I don't see anything childish about that.

What I mean... is when you buy a car, and just all of a sudden decide you don't like it.. you can't just go and get a different one when you have 3K in bills a month, and a home, and a wife, and all that awesome stuff. And besides, every car is going to have something that cost 1K+ to fix sooner or later, be it head gaskets, or in my case.. spark plugs.

I figure, 14k for the truck, 5K to fix it top notch.. 19K total. I'm still coming ahead compared to some of the 2005 models I looked at for 24K

I understand that. Yes, every car will need a $1000 dollar job like head gaskets some day if you drive it long enough, but spark plugs are basic maintainance, head gaskets aren't something you change every 10-20K miles. I understand it may not be extremely practical to sell the truck and get something else, but if it's going to cost you 1000's to maintain, you have to draw the line somewhere.

Are you saying that I'm childish because I got f**ked over on a car I bought and I'm selling it before I have more in it that what it's worth?

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but I was just wondering what became of this. We have the same f150 with the 5.4 at about 150k miles, orig tranny, bought brand new. We've had a spark plug shoot out a couple times and had to heli coil it. What is the permanent fix to it? New heads? We've put a bunch of money into this thing a few times before.

That because it's a coil on plug setup no? So it's the coils that rape you in the ass not necessarily the plug itself correct?

Aren't the heads aluminum? People would be stupid not to put antiseize on the sparkplugs Then again most are probably use to cast iron heads. lol
