What is everyone's recommendation for spark plugs and wires? My car has 47,000 miles on it. What are the benefits of the popular aftermarket plugs/wires vs the stock ones?

What are all your mods? I use Autolites I use 104 with a DP, CAI and 3.4 they are cheap and work good
and I have PRJ Wires they are pricey

I would ALWAYS recommend OE wires. Stock copper plugs are ideal for a stock car, MAYBE one heat range cooler with CAI, 180*, and a PCM.

I plan on doing those exact mods first. Later would possibly be downpipe and cat-back. I don't really have a reason to replace the plugs/wires right now (besides that I wanted the red wires for looks!), so I was just wondering if it made any sense to do it.

Go ahead and do your plugs, they made a world of difference for me. My old plugs also had 106K on them, the previous owner never changed them.

If you've only got 47k on your current plugs/wires, you don't need to touch them. Leave them be until you're actually making more power, then start playing with them. If you want the red look, I suggest getting some red wire loom and using that for now.

Adding to this thread.

I have a Stock '04 GT.

I want to add a K&N Intake for a little more power over a stock GT.

I also am considering an exhaust...increase in HP but mainly I just wanna hear my car.

What are the benitfits of aftermarket plugs?

Colder aftermarket plugs will hold less heat and therefore reduce kr which is important in S/C cars but can also be beneficial in N/A when you have allot of mods. With just an intake i would recomend stock plugs or you could try AL 605 plugs which are one heat range colder but dont go any colder than that until you have more mods.

I just got a 2001 GTP Sedan last week and have been doing research on it to make sure everything is maintained and if not I want to well, maintain it. The last owner had plugs and wires done to the car last March (and various other things). The receipt says the shop put on Double Platinum Plugs and Premium Wires (w/e that means, they are blue). I hear that Double Platinum isn't what I need and I should replace them with Autolite 605. I bought the Haynes Repair Manual and the thing has NOTHING about the SC 3800 so I'm guessing the plugs gap may be different also. What are these plugs supposed to be gapped at? What do you guys use to find out this information?

The car is stock with 140k miles.

If your car is stock nothing will change as far as adding a performance ignition! The ignition system in our cars is good, its very hard to make it better! So I would recommend you to stick to the original plugs and wires.

I remember reading something about never using Platinum plugs with a supercharger. You get a lot more KR.

A few years ago, I bought aftermarket plug wires and started getting a ton of misfires and KR. I switched back to the wires that came with the car and it all went away. I now have 180,00 miles on those wires. As soon as I get a chance, I'm putting in a new set of OEM's and some new 104's.

I also tried Iridiums once, but the Autolites reduced the KR a lot more. Plus, the 104's are a good bit cheaper for better performance.

Yeah, $70 for OE wires, and $1.35/ea per plug for the 104's...that's just not something you can beat!

Im catching up on you Blackwood. Im at 166,000 now! Still got tha original wires on mine too. Thinking about a new set of wires and plugs though. No problems with mine, just thinking it cant hurt. Where did you get a set of wires for $40?
