I used to run a pf52 on any car that required a pf47 filter but havent tried it to see if it would fit on my GTP. Anyone have an idea before I got buy one? I know it fits the engine but are there any clearance issues that I might have?

Yes it fits, but if you hit a big pothole or bump, the control arm can crush the filter and cause a lot of problems.

I've run both before and never had any problems...I did the best I could to test and compress that side of the car to make sure I wouldn't have any crushing issues. I like running the 52's so I can put in exactly 4.5qts instead of 4.3. Makes future oil changes a bit easier. There are some that will say that you may be putting more strain on the motor by having to pump more oil through a bigger filter. I don't remember where I read that thread at though.

I just stocked up on the 47's and the 52's when wally world put them on clearance to bring in the new "e-core" or whatever the hell they are now. Nothing like getting a $1.50 filter!

3 years ago or so I almost switched to a pf52 filter but decided to go with the pf47. A week later I hydroplaned through an intersection and into a curb, crushing the control arm, tie rods, and engine cradle on the passenger side. Had I put the bigger filter on it would have been crushed and I wouldn't have been able to limp the car home.

Not saying it will happen to you, but I'll never run the taller filter because things like that happen.

Fit the oil filter adapter from an H-Body car, and you can run the PF52 no problem.

I changed my oil filter the other day and took measurements around it. The only way a pf52 would get crushed is if the lower control arm broke and was pushed up and into the filter. There is no way possible on my GTP that the oil filter could be crushed from anything steering or suspension. And if by chance it did, there would be much bigger problems to worry about than the oil filter. So far I have heard from 7 people that run them with no problem but I have not heard from ANYONE that has had a clearance issue running the pf52. Does anyone have actual proof that they get crushed even in an extreme accident? I looked around at a GM scrap yard at about 10 different GP's with front right collision damage and not even a single one of them had clearance issues fitting a pf52. Even saw one with a left side impact that pushed the engine over and the only thing i saw was the crank pully was a hair closer than normal but still had the clearance.

^^ And as Kyle said, if that were to happen, better shut it down quick and call a flatbed cause you're not gonna be able to limp home. I did something similar to what he did except in a 98 Grand Am :( It does happen! Hopefully not the time I happen to be using a 52!
