Brought my car to the local tire pros to have the coolant flushed ( I didn't feel like messing around with disposing coolant in the middle of November). Well I went to change my Tstat the other day to find my coolant looking like mud. They put in the green stuff, which would have been alright with me, but they must not have flushed the system good enough because of how bad it looked. Simple task, failed. When I went in to complain I told the manager that they put the wrong coolant in my car and he tried to tell me I was wrong. They did flush it again for me though and its all good now. But I will not have anyone touch my car again.

Sadly not surprised. I'm amazed what monkey's can work at a mechanic shop...

I had the local oil change place do the same thing to me back when I bought the car. It took me two more flushes to get everything out.

I don't trust any shops to work on my stuff. I'd rather save the money and learn how to fix my own car anyhow, plus I'll know that it was done right (or at least what was done :P)

Jiffy Lube put too much oil in my tank, the ONE time I let someone else change my oil, and it ended up blowing the head gasket and oil pump.

Even better? After bugging them and hassling them for 7 weeks, they finally told me after waiting for so long that they wouldn't pay for it.

I ended up paying 1,800$.

I had a local shop replace my dads radiator on our intrepid because I didn't have the space or time and they put dex-cool in a dodge... The thing started over heating and I cracked the cap off to check and had nasty brown mud.

They told my dad the metal in the iron block was getting into the coolant and that caused the mud issue...

I was forced to have someone else change my oil in the Camaro (nowhere I can do it) recently. They didn't know how much oil to put in. I told them 5 qts but they played it safe, put 4 in, I started it, they measured it and then they added the last quart. Shame that car is gonna be on hold as far as fixing up for a while. But that's my fault. At least it's driveable.

I remember this, you were about ready to kill someone when you found that out. :p

Overall, the only thing I trust a shop with is an alignment. I work on the car with dthreap and wingman but it ends up being watching for certain things because dthreap likes the experience. I am going to be getting more involved with work on my own car. I also have a lack of tools so it's difficult for me to do much on the car.
