Recently my hvac fan stopped working. Earlier, it would only work on the highest setting, but then it stopped all completely, and sometimes it would come back on for 5 minutes before shutting off again. Does this sound more like a wiring issue or has the motor just gone bad? It would be nice to replace it soon because I can't defrost my windshield.

someone just came into my work with this problem. he replaced and tested the fan and it works. and the controles say its on high but nothing comes out, checked the fuses too. im assuming its a wireing issue if your problem sounds the same

You probably have a bad blower motor resistor; Autozone sells them for around $27.00 (Duralast part# 783). Since you would need to remove the blower motor to replace the resistor, you can get the blower motor tested as well.

Is it difficult to pull the blower motor or change the resistor? I don't have a manual on the car cuz I can't find one that covers the 2001 lol

Here's a write up: How to change the Blower Motor Resistor

Difficulty level depends on how much you like working under the dash.. ;-)

Hahaha it was the resistor and now everything works great. Looks like I won't die this winter when the windows fog up lol. Thanks for all the help guys!

P.S. good luck to the brave soul who needs to replace this part...

Glad to hear you've got it fixed! If you haven't already done this, consider replacing your windshield cowl seal with the permanent fix for the water in the floorboard issue. It will prevent water damage to your blower motor, resistor, and carpeting.
