Pretty sure I'm even skinnier than I was when you saw me back in August. Having to sinch my damn belt down a ton just to keep my jeans up, and my uniforms are WAY too big and it's very obvious. Sad part is I haven't been able to work out at all.

Your a guy, you automatically have an edge on us females ;) You guys require more calories per day and burn far more than we do and tends to be significantly easier to lose the weight (not in all cases).

I don't eat bad, but between genetics and not a whole lot of activity... I lose frequently to a slow metabolism.

My problem years ago was that I couldn't keep enough weight on. By the end of my freshman year of high school I was 5'9 or 5'10 and weighed somewhere between 120 and 140 pounds. Doctor said I needed to start putting on weight badly (I already ate everything I can get my hands on at that point) and we couldn't figure out how till I started lifting weights.

At this point I'm watching my weight VERY closely because of that history. I'm down to 195 and I only have another 10 pounds or so to go before I'm below my ideal weight for my build and height. I don't want to end up in that boat again, especially since I don't have the time to work out like I used to. It doesn't help that I spend 11 hours a day on my feet. Seriously, if I'm below 185 I look like I'm sick.

Haha sally. I restarted the P90X Lean routine last night. First workout was Core Synergistics. Wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I'm going to tear this shit up for the next 90 days... When the workout includes ab-ripper, I do it right after my regular workout. Pound it all out at once. :)

You're worried about weight at 5'11' & 212 pounds? I'm 5'8" and 288 pounds. I hate it, and NOTHING has worked for me. I don't eat much, and have tried everything. I know I could be more active, and in a couple months, I will be.

I get a little sore in most areas for the first few days. The only part that's really burning on me is my butt muscles lol. It hurts to sit on the toilet, and hurts even more to lean to wipe. Damn those muscles!

I hear ya'. Except the NEED to gain weight lol. I never had that luxury.

When I was at my lowest weight (140) I looked absolutely ill... 150 is my ideal weight and where I would like to end up. I could be worse than I am now (weight wise) but definitely not happy.

Observing and maintaining your Carb intake is an incredibly effective way to lose weight.

I wouldn't call it a luxury Kendra. I was far less healthy and able to avoid getting sick when I was that underweight than I was afterwards. For years, maintaining a healthy weight was just as difficult for me as it is for people who are overweight. FWIW, I know you're hard on yourself, but you still look pretty healthy so if you're not where you want to be, you can't be that far off.

The nurse said to get my BMI to a healthy 19, I would be 127 lbs. Shes on a different planet. I'm at a BMI of 44 right now, which is way deep in the red, but I don't feel that bad... The wife needs to lose a good 60 lbs or so too, but she just had a baby, so she's got an excuse.

Those of you who are to get big really need to lift weights too, Although P90X is great it doesn't do the same as just lifting plain ole dumbbells.

You lift dumbbells in P90X....

And yes, P90X will put on mass. You can't expect to achieve monster muscle mass from lifting weights, when you are out of shape to begin with. It defeats the purpose.

You just have to choose the routine that is correct for you.

Coming from someone who LOST a crap ton of muscle mass in basic training (we're talking in excess of 30 lbs of muscle mass), I'm pretty sure, while P90X is great for getting in shape, is not a route to gaining muscle mass. There are some people that might gain muscle mass because of the way their body responds, but I know mine won't. To gain strength I have to lift weights. And not dumbells. Unless you are extremely weak from a muscular strength standpoint, don't expect huge gains in overal strength. You'll burn off a ton of fat, but if you're anything like me, the gains aren't near what they advertise, especially for as little time as they advertise you having to dedicate per day.

The way it works is that they avoid the plateau effect that usually happens when working out. They call it muscle confusion. You do something different 7 days a week for 1 month, then they switch it up to a whole new 7 day routine. After the 2nd month, they switch it up again. That way, you are always progressing instead of peaking.

Just started my second cycle yesterday!!! when i started i was 6'2" 280...(I got all the way too 320 when i decided enough was enough)... when the first cycle was done i was down to 215... that's just workouts and eating better (no p90x diet)... i hate to admit most of the reason I've always been a bigger guy is i don't like vegetables AT ALL!! I just drastically cut my calorie intake to less than 1200 a day...

i stopped doing the workouts for about 2 months and with the increase in my metabolism i keep losing weight...

Now down to 202... P90X IS NO JOKE!!! IT WILL KICK YOUR ASS!!! BUT ITS ALL WORTH IT!!!

BRING IT!!! P90X!!!

I just now saw this response (sucks working nights sometimes) and the way the Army progresses through PT (if the NCO in charge is actually doing his job) is done in a similar manner. Only times that weights are available is if the PT NCO incorporates it in, and in basic training they don't lift weights at all. Problem is, I LOST a ton of overall strength and muscular endurance during BCT. I did almost twice as many pushups and situps at the BEGINNING of basic than I did at the END of basic, and barely passed the end of basic PT test. Got to my unit, got back into my old routine (which did incorporate weightlifting at least twice a week), and the next PT test less than 3 months later I would have maxed it out had I been able to max out my run which I never could. My point is that not everything works for everyone and, unless weights are involved, it doesn't increase my strength or endurance. I'm sure it's great for someone who isn't active at all, but for someone that's been extremely active all their life and played sports and done martial arts during most of that time, it's not going to have near the effect. Or, if their like me, their body is structured in a way that only compounds that fact.
