well she went out today and purchased a 2010 Mazda 3.
it has 48000 miles and it has some factory warranty left, plus she got an extended one for 80000 miles.
she got $800 for her jeep with a slung rod motor, and payments real nice.

all this for the low low price of $14500 over 74months. wow.

so by the time it is paid off she will have paid almost 5k in interest? 20k for a 2010 mazda with 50k miles on it. Seems like a steal of a deal!.....

Call me crazy but my sister just got all the paper work for her new car and that price jumped a whole lot.

the price was $13200 and after Tax, Tag, and Title it came to $19450
is that right?

thats like $6000 for all that. that sounds wrong.

tell me what you guys think.

Depending on what the APR is that is a darn possible number. Sales tax should be about a grand and title/license should be another hundred or so I'd guess (not really familiar with how much that stuff costs in different states.). If she paid in full that price would be less than 15000 I'd guess, but if she's financing it over 72 months, she's going to get nailed with interest.

She financed with the dealer. First mistake.

She bought a car using the "I can pay this much per month mentality". Second mistake.

She obviously told the dealer that, so he "got her into a car she wanted in her 'price range'". Third mistake.

She financed a car for 72 months. Fourth mistake.

She didn't stick to her original budget. Fifth mistake....

This is one big fail.

84 months is insane. In 4 years, she'll still have about $7k owed on the car and it'll hardly be worth that, but she'll have another 4 to go til paid off. Better hope it doesn't get totaled past that point as the insurance check won't even be enough to pay the loan off.

See if you can get her out of this mess. This is not good news.

Call me crazy, but I could never go out and finance a car. Then again I can say that know when I'm still young and dumb, but my next car will be paid in full up front or I won't get it. I've never been a fan of credit other than my "Bone me in the ass" student loans.

84 months? I didn't even know they made used car loans for that duration. 84 months is crazy for a new vehicle, let alone one with 50k miles.

Hopefully you can get her out of this situation because in the end it won't be good. She'll only get further into debt troubles.

72 months is the longest I had seen, and that is a recent development even on a NEW car.

That could be the price the car cost after it's paid off, but if that's the final price before financing she got burned. Multiply the monthly payment by 84 and see what you come up with.

Going with a 10% rate (being generous), and using that number as initial price.. after 7 years that car will cost $18,407. Quite a steal if ya ask me... for the dealer that is.

The dealer doesn't collect the interest, the bank that financed the car does.
