hi im jake. i don't own a gp yet but I'm intending to buy one in the next 3 months. i currently drive a 1999 grand am gt that hates me lol. joining up early to learn about any issues or headaches i may run into with a 04+gtp or 06+gt

Welcome! :) Hope you find all the info you need.

Depending on how high the milage is, the LIM gasket needs to be changed out. If it isnt, you'll see a little puddle of black stuff around the LIM and its going to be really bad around the tenioner.

Saw it on my GP at 30K... But in general, you should look for it on any 3800 engine. It can be easily replaced if your mechanically knowledgable.

Wasn't in 05 this issue remedied with metal gaskets, or is it one of those things knowing gm is a bit iffy

Yes it was, but the 04's, even though the new body style, still had plastic ones.
