Hello all, names SkooB. I am 22 yrs old and I own a 2000 pontiac gp model se. I've had it for about 2 years now...bought it from a country bumpkin who left it out behind the barn for 6yrs! yea...i have no clue why ANYONE would mistreat a GP in that manner...might as well shoot it. Anywho, i haven't driven it in months due to license being revoked. RENEWING IT NEXT WEEK!!! My goal is to renew the life of my car if not enhance it...it's in really bad shape. i'm even ashamed to say that i've done my share of driving on ZERO FUEL...yes...hard times in the past. I HAVE done my own manual maintenance on it (spark plugs, water pump, changed brakes and rotors etc...) but right now i've got a long list of issues with it.
1. Both rear window motors snapped.
2. Brownish gunk/mud-like substance in the coolant cont.&radiator.
3. Battery dies quick.
4. overdue oil change....waaaay overdue.
5. Car putts in low speeds(0-15mph).
6. Interior issues(all 3 knobs on a/c missing since purchase).
So as you can see these are all easy to fix issues. Didn't have the money for upkeep in the past but new job and new tools means i'm willing to do what i have to do to get my GP at premium condition. Please, GRACE ME WITH KNOWLEDGE...

Where in norcal? I got a couple cousins in the San Fran area who are mustang fanatics and I love it out there. Any way good luck with the car man, GPs are great cars once u get em cleaned up. Then they really stand out from all the other GPs on the road cause every one else treats em like shit. Any way welcome to the forum.

Sacramento. South Side. i've been treating mine like crap but believe me, NO MORE! i love my grand prix, i've driven the new camaro and lots of other vehicles and i still love my car. it's my favorite! (if i had to choose a 2nd i'd say the Camaro :-P.) my driverside speaker has blown out as well to add to the list of things to replace/fix but that's audio, i'll worry about that 2nd to last. i'll browse the forums more but can any1 point me in the direction of performance tips for the 97-03 GP's and a list of which items work BEST? i've seen some good reviews on alot of items such as mufflers, tires, and even best synthetic oils to use but i suppose it's all based on personal preference...TIPS PLZ?

for oil just check ur owners manual and buy what it says i dont think it will make a difference now if u got like over 100k miles ide get some high milage stuff for sure. I used castrol gtx 5w-30 last time i did it. Flow master 40 mufflers sound good I know go ahead and youtube grand prix exaust and you will find plenty of 97-03 vids. Check out the DIY section for some fun stuff, and personally the speakers would drive me insane they would have to be first but thats just my prefference. BTW can we get some 97-03 guys in here to help please? I mean its similar to my 06 but not the same.

Currently at 140k on the mileage, thx for the DIY tip, and yea, i didn't mind the speakers to be honest. 6x9's in the rear, quite decent, thought they were aftermarket but pre-owner wouldn't tell me...too lazy to look up the speakers due to irrelevance. i'm getting my friends pioneer deck, audio for the panels, 2 amps(1 for subs 1 for panels) and 4 12's installed december sooo hey.

Welcome to GPONA! Well, here's my $0.02 on the list that you have:
1. Window motors are pretty easy to replace. Any auto parts store should have those.
2. My Dex-cool looked like that that after a few months...LOL! Flush it real good. I even take the overflow bottle out and clean that too.
3. New battery asap. Make sure to have the charging system checked. No point buying a new batt if you have a dead alternator...you'll end up buying two batteries.
4. Obviously change the oil & filter. I recommend doing a Sea Foam treatment too. Just search "Sea Foam" here and you'll find a write-up on it.
5. "putts" can mean so many things :???: Not sure if you're describing a drivability condition or a noise. All of your routine maintenance just may take care of that "putting."
6. Those little missing pieces, GPONA's for sale section, EBAY, junkyard, etc.

Best wishes. Get some before pictures and post them. Then we can enjoy the after pictures along with you.
