Hello all my name is James. I really enjoy looking around on the site for all kinds of info so I decided to finally join up. Let me tell you a little about myself before I ask my question.

As you can probably tell I used to have a Z24. My first car was a 1993 Z24 and I fell in love with GM FWD V6 (funny thing for someone to say right?) I've learned a lot and did some engine swaps with friends, the whole 9-yards. Anyway; I decided it was time to move on to bigger and better things so I sold my baby while the iron was hot and the offers were good. I decided I wanted a G8 GT and still do BUT... I keep coming back to the idea of owning a GP. Its a lot cheaper to get into and I hope still plenty fast for my needs. The whole reason I like the G8 is because it is one of the most well rounded cars of today, offers great luxury and performance for its price. I can say the same thing about the grand prix's but obviously they have a little bit less of each.

My question to you all is (and this has probably been asked before but I couldn't find a thread) Which model should I get, GTP or GXP? I'm talking about 2004+ obviously. It would be a daily driver and I would eventually be modding them, it would be impossible not to! lol. I know the transmissions are the weak point of the drive train but other than that I'm not sure which power-plant would suite me best. If I had to set a goal for the car, I would like to have a very street-able car, that still gets stock if not better than stock MPG and can go 13's in the 1/4. The way I figure it I can get into a GTP with comp-G for around 10K and a GXP would be around 15K. Which do you all think would be the better choice if I decide I cant get myself a G8?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the lengthy first post; but I would appreciate any input to try and make the decision process easier.

The GTPs have alot more modding oppertunities than the GXPs unless your a mechanical genious which I sure am not. I actually got the GXP because I can't afford to do tons of mods so I got some decent HP off the start. You should deffinatly try to get an 07 or 08 since thats when they started the 100k mile warrenty so you'll have a couple years warrentied on what you dont mod lol.
Good Luck which ever route you take!

I only own a base so its a naturally aspirated 3.8 6 cylinder and i love it but given the opertunity i would take the GTP in a heartbeat. Because V8s always sound rumbly and cool how many people have screaming superchargers. So GTP.

if you are going to mod no matter what (not just apperance) then i say the gtp.

the v8 is in or close to the 13's stock so not much need to do (besides the obvious intake and exhaust.) so you would be mostly looks on that

the v6 has 13's in store fairly easy also. but could feed the need to mod to feel like you have done something worthwhile, and still wont hit the pocket tooo hard.

either way like you said, the trans is the worst part, but you will have fun either way.

On the topic of the L32; and forgive me if this has been beaten to death, how are the stores like Intense racing and ZZP. I like the idea of their "performance packs." Are they really such a good idea? According to Intense, $1800 gets me about 300 WHP which sounds awesome but is it true?

My advice to you is this... A genius once told me, There is no replacement for displacement. He was correct.

Another true statement of the same type is there is no replacement for cubic inches, except for cubic dollars

but as for the goals in mind and the potental severity of the mod bug, the smaller motor can achive the goals desired easy enough.

as for the "performance package" you could make it your self by buying parts used or cheaper priced parts and achive the same for less, or achive more for the same price.

Get a GXP, and if you want more, drop a turbo in the beast! I agree with arepok, if that is the route you go, make sure it is a 2007 or 2008 for the warranty.

Welcome. As a GTP owner I'd say go with a GTP. I just say a GTP with ONLY 3 mods (Wizard CAI, Headers & catback) run with and start to actually pull away from a 1 mod GXP (K&N intake). Someone else said it: there is a lot more to play with in a GTP. If you're hands on with your ride....GTP.
