From the great state of Kansas (Sarcasm LOL) I bought my Grand Prix GTP in January of this year and I'm looking to mod it out a little, without getting to crazy. I plan on doing the following:

Cold Air Intake
PCM Mod
In-Dash Navigation
Lowering Springs
Performance Brakes w/Calipers (red)
Exhaust System
New wheels (preferably black to match the calipers)
Graphics on the hood (just don't know what exactly)

That's pretty much it. Looking forward to learning a few things about my GTP.

Welcome.

BTW, when the mod bug bites, it bites hard! When I got mine, I had no plans of doing any modding.

Yeah Welkome aboard. Should be easy to mod to. Your not like me bought a n/a car. Since you already have the SC blower, just drop a pully, 180* thermostat, and tune and your good. Although if your bit bad enough your gona want a cam to lol. You give a mouse a cookie and hes gona want a beer as my friends and I say.

This might sound kind of dumb but...

What purpose would the 180 thermostat serve?
And what's a cam?

I really wish I was better at cars than I am computers, as far as modifications are concerned.

Im not Super charged myself but if what I have read on here is right and some of you guys can correct me. But a 180 degree thermostat makes the fans kick on at a lower speed to cool the motor to keep it cooler, because a cooler motor is a happier motor. Also a cam is one of the moving parts in the engine that controls how much your valves open up and can allow more fuel and air into your cylinders. More air/ fuel = more boom in cylinders which = more power. At least I believe that's correct. some of the other guys on here will be happy to correct me with many accompanying insults lol.

cam = camshaft

and you are mostly right on the 180* lowers the temps yes, but you need to modify the pcm to affect the fans!

The thermostat doesn't make the fans turn on sooner, it just lowers the operating temp of the motor by allowing coolant flow from the radiator at a lower temperature. The fans can only be changed through the PCM and it's recommended to do so if you install a lower temp thermostat. A lower operating temperature helps with Knock Retard especially on these S/Ced engines since they never came with a factory intercooler, thus if you keep the engine slightly cooler, you help prevent knock and can therefore have more spark timing advance.

Trey, that idiot (accompanying insult), sort of got the cam part right, but he more or less just described what high lift rockers do (just giving you a hard time Trey  ). A cam can also change the intake/exhaust valve profiles and have them open a different times, stay open longer, have more/less valve overlap, etc, instead of just opening them more aka high lift rockers.

Cool. Thanks for the info. Any recommendations for a cold air intake?

A DIY one is the route many guys take since it's cheap and effective. There's a writeup on here about how to make one.

Welcome to GPONA. There are a ton of us 2004 GTP owners here.. and I agree, reading through the thrads, the mod bug will likely bite you hard...

Be careful slapping a pulley on your Eaton and a cold air intake and calling it a day... you will almost certainly up your Knock Retard numbers (in fact never start serious modding without a scan gauge to monitor this).. with these series 3 sc motors, they are more prone to knock if engine mods are not done in proper sequence... Start with cooler plugs, cooler thermostat, and like Matt said, build your own CAI (I did) and save some cash.

The best thing you can do is read and research here... I gauruntee you you will learn a ton!
