I have been looking around at the site. I really like it. I like that its organized. And the members all seem to be nice and they share their knowledge with new members. I like the How-To sction.

We live in Minnesota. My wife and I own a 1999 red Pontiac Grand Prix GTP coupe. It has 194,000 miles on it but she runs good. Its our only car right now. The only things I have done to the car is a 4" home Depot intake and a set of 2006 Grand Prix 17" rims. I drive it about 70 miles round trip to work. Im looking for ways to squeeze a little better fuel mileage out of it though. Im getting about 24-26 mpg right now. I have a few ideas such as a tune for 87 oct fuel, headers, ported heads, and ported blow/LIM. But I ont have the experiance needed to replace the heads, blow and LIM right now. And the headers I would be a little iffy with too. But Im learning. And no, I dont beat on it and the perf. shift off. I get accussed of beating on it by my co-workers because its a GTP. I actually baby this car a lot. I love this car. Its a little tough to get three kids in the seat though, but we make it work. Its still roomier than the 4 door cavalier we used to have.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi.

I agree, pics and progress will be fun to see.

By all means have the car tuned for mileage, but for the love of everything holy, please don't put 87 in there. There are several reasons not to. The lower octane will not be as efficient thus lowering MPG, the cost difference from 87 to premium is like $3 a tank. Not worth possible kr and possible chipping pistons to save a couple bucks. A good tune and a good tune up are the best ways other than adjusting driving style.

Welcome, but please put 91+ in that car, tune or not. Your MPG's will actually increase with proper fuel grade use and net you better performance in the process. S/C's create heat, heat leads to knock, knock causes poor performance and lower MPG's. Higher octace fuel prevents knock. That's why the N/A GP's only need 87 while the S/Ced one need 91+ octane.

I will run 91 in it friday when I get paid and see what happens. I didn't realize it would cost so little. Thanks for the welcomes and the advice. Does anyone have any "how-to" write ups for making a box for a hai/cai? I saw a box like I want to make on mr.angrygtp's car in his youtube video. I have searched for a how-to and can't find one.

Ahh the beloved trash can air cold air box mod.. LOL

Let me see if I can find a link...

And btw welcome, but yes, the fellas are right... our cars run much better with 91... I ran mid grade in my old GP for awhile, and it was not happy... the Comp G has never had anything other than premium...

Here you go... There were a few threads where this was a topic of conversation but no actual build thread that I could find...

What you need:

-9 inch K&N universal cone filter.
-2 silicone couplers.
-high quality hose clamps
-a trash can
-reflective insulating material
-reflective tape
-zip ties
-imagination
