I'm not really to to the Pontiac "Grand" family. I owned a 2000 Grand Am for 10 years which I finally just retired. We just bought a 2006 Grand Prix and I look forward to learning as much about it as I did the Grand Am.

No, no plans at all really. The days of modding are long gone for this guy. I am married with 2 young kids which takes all my time now. I am though going to be replacing my OEM navigation deck with a Clarion navigation deck, install 2 of my subs and that should be good enough for me now. I will always be surfing around here to learn as much as I can and who knows, maybe I will find something interesting I can do to the car after all lol.

Got ya ;) We have the GM service manual on the top left side of the forum which will save you tons of money and we also have a sticky on the trouble codes. Since you just got the car, just do some maintains stuff like cleaning the throttle body, checking filters (including the cabin one- found a ton of leaves in my G8 when I finally checked yesterday), depending on the miles a sea-foam treatment, etc. There are a few "free" mods too- the big 3 (sanding down all the major grounding points) and flipping the motor mounts. Only thing I suggest you buy "performance wise" which I feel was the best mod I had on the Grand Prix are the GXP brakes with stainless steel brake lines- you'll also need 18" rims (245/45/18's) to clear them. Stock brakes are a joke, the differences are night and day. They are usually found used for $500-300... still can't believe I basically traded mine for a steering wheel, lmao

ok, just a few things.......I just recently bought and OBDII reader so that will help I'm sure.
I will research the cabin air filter on here tomorrow and check that out being it is late. Also I will have to research what this sea-foam treatment is lol.....But I will ask, what you mean by sanding down the grounding points and why flip the motor mounts? Are there sites listed here for performance parts, like the brake mod you speak of? I know for the Grand Am, I have a million sites saved but now I need to start getting new sited for the Grand Prix.

Flipping the mounts help to stiffen them by using the more solid sides vs. having to buy poly mounts

The big 3- car-audio-electronics-f8/the-big-3-everything-you-wanted-to-know-diy-t18842.html?hilit=big%20electrical

The GXP brakes are 13" drilled rotors with a 2 piston caliber vs the stock single piston 12" rotors- I posted the picture above.

Well we dont' bite hard... J/k

Welcome aboard! Nice upgrade! I second the mod bug, you'll do one simple modifcation and you're hooked. I think that's how it works anyway ;) I haven't messed with mods.

How do you know? My car is 10 feet away from me with my factory 17" wheels and GXP brakes.
The rule is take the size of the rotor (13") and add 4", that is the smallest wheel size you can fit.

The OP will need an upgrade seeing as how it probably has factory 16".

Indeed it is an addiction and it hurts when you can't save money fast enough.

Welcome btw :)

Mod bug = normally starts with a K&n...

Welcome.

And I'm going out on a limb here but gxp brakes should work with 17s. Hell my buddy has c5 corvette calipers on his 98 daytona edition gp with stock 16s...
