Ok guys, here is the deal. It's nearing spring and I just got this car a month ago and I'm looking to break 13.5 with a custom fenderwell intake, 3" catless downpipe, res delete, dual Flowmaster super 44 mufflers, poly motormount, 275/40-18 tires, and an HP tune. Can it be done with this front wheel drive set up? Ideas? Criticisms?

I went against a stock Monte SS that ran a 13.99...forget the trap speed, though. I would think that a tune, exhaust, and intake would get you there.

I've seen stock GXP's run 13.85 on a good start, I didn't think it would be too much of a stretch. It's all in your take-off. We have a little better traction than the Monte SS's due to the much fatter stickier tires.

True, but the Monte is lighter. I don't know my how much, though.

That's what is stated, that is not what they run stock if you know how to drive it :) I've seen it in person. No tune, no exhaust, no intake, no nothing. If you can catch good traction it runs. 13.85 It's the main reason I bought one.

Have you had a chance to run your car, to see where it's at now?

Kris I hate to burst your bubble but there isn't too much performance wise for the GXP Don't get me wrong I love the way they look but I Love the performance of my s/c v6 granted in stock form the GXP will out run my GTP but I can take mine farther on less of a budget than the GXP

And I also found stock times for a Monte SS: 14.7 seconds at 98 mph
That is slower than the GXP but as far as drivers I am sure Car and Driver doesn't have Joe Blow testing the cars out

Oh, you're absolutely right about he V6 having more possibility man :) I won't argue on that one. I'm looking for the lure of having a throaty V8 though :) Yours can be much faster with available parts for MUCH cheaper man. All i want is under 13.5, that's it, I think it's highly attainable. As far as the car and driver test drivers. The only thing with that is, these are probably drivers that had 5 cars to run that day and probably tested with rear drive cars and could give a lil more off the get go, there is a perfect balance with this car, as I'm sure you know if you have a pimped out V6 supercharged, that will get the most speed with the best grip possible :) I'm not disputing any of your input man :)

it's all i the launch. laugh as hard as you can and keep traction as much as you can. i believe the car is capable of it, just how you spin/launch it.

Drag Radials, a full exhaust, down pipe, rockers, plug wires, plugs, a damn good tune, and a full exhaust. You should be well capable of 13.5's!

oh and a FWI!

The turbo kit takes your quarter down to like 12.5 on stock tires ;) Don't have 5 grand to toss right now though. Don't think I'll ever do that to this car. would rather build a rear wheel drive toy than make my daily driver a torque steer machine. LOL

I am surprised at how little torque steer my Cutty had. Admittedly, it was there, but it didn't try to kill ya.

get a cheap gtp for like $4000, spend about $2000-$2500 in mods and you have yourself a mid to low 13 second car for less then half of what you mightve paid for a gxp

I will never dis the GTP's man, I love them, but I want a V8 :) Much more rare and sounds hella nice, this isn't gonna be my drag car, only my family transport. I just want something fun to drive around town. I'll build a rear drive beast someday, not interested right now. I'm much more into the sound and overall performance. I have ridden in some badass GTP's but it's not my thing :) No disrespect man

Now i dont know for the rest of u but are u talking 13.5 corrected number. I live in colorado so unless i put a turbo/supercharger, or major engine work on my car ill never see 13.5. At my altitude i think stock ill be in the mid 14 to high 14. I have run a newer Z28 at the track up here and the best it got was like 14.2-14.3

Magnaflows with no res, K&N CAI, and no headlight. I got 13.4@104 with 1.8 60' With REALLY bad tires. That's from DashHawk so +/- .1 sec.

That's pimp, thats basically what I'll have at the beginning. Only I'll have a tune as well. I think I'm going to buy some drag radials for the track. Maybe I'll get around 13.2 with that, I would be OVERJOYED lol

I ran mine once at Atco, NJ. My best time was 13.93 just by letting the car shift automatically. Also, I didn't tune it yet. I can't wait for the track to open. I will put this baby in the low 13's by the summer.

Probably could have gotten at least 13.7 in Tap, it shifts into 3rd 10 mph too early in auto. I, sometimes, drop it into Tap after it shifts into 2nd.

I need more practice with TAP. My 1-2 shift sucks. No worries, we'll be there. Running a front wheel drive car is new to me, too. It's the second front wheel drive I've ever own. I have 30 years of souping up cars and drag racing and this is the first FWD I've ever drag raced. My TA is off the hook! Major rebuild is underway for it.
