I just got back from the muffler shop and had my two flowmaster super 44 mufflers with DNA dual outlet 3.5" tips installed and the resonator deleted. The res delete made a HUGE difference in the overall sound of the exhaust. For a grand total of 300 dollars total installed this was the best mod EVER. I can't wait to get the custom intake installed and get it tuned. What kind of exhaust setups are you guys using? This damn thing sets off car alarms now like it's its business.

my exhaust is pretty mild for the most part. Its all stock to the stock cat. then from the stock cat its 2.5 inch stainless pipe, no resonator, to Dynomax Superturbo mufflers with 4 inch stainless magnaflow tips.

EDIT:

OOPS!!! i posted in here without noticing what section i was in. haha i don't have a GXP, just a NA 3.8. haha

i got the Magnaflow catback exhaust. i kept the res and added a cutout right after that. very happy with the sound with the cutout open and closed. really enjoy making the ricers piss down their leg with the cutout open and a nice rev

Nice DP, I'll have to think about the cut out, is yours one of the electric opening ones? I could definitely see this thing making ricers piss themselves. It scares small children hahaha. It's cool Andy, no big deal, I would like to hear what the 3.8 guys are running as well, how do you like the Dynomaxs. D boy, I have heard the magnaflow kit wasn't that loud though. Is that true?

Not sure, my whole exhaust is the GXP one, just the tips are Magnaflow, a fully exhaust is a later mod for me, more focused on getting my rims and suspension finished right about now.

I don't mind the Dynomax. they were raspy as all hell when i first got em, but as they broke in they sound very nice. only downfall is at idle there VERY quiet. i guess thats good for the neighbor hood at the times im coming home from work, 1/2 AM. haha but under throttle they sound nice.

as for you GXPers, i can only imagine that V8 on a cutout!!! i would probably use that more than i should and draw unwanted attention.

I hear ya Andy, I can't wait to go to work at 3 AM and gun the shit out of it HAHAHA, i have a cop that lives across from me in my apartments HAHAHAHA. in between buildings this thing will be sooooooo loud. I like that setup milestone, I've heard the new age cherry bombs aren't as annoying as they used to be. Just like glass packs. Cool, i understand Dboy, so you put the stock GXP exhaust on your GT. That's not a bad idea, did you buy it from somebody who put non factory exhaust on a gxp or get it from a junkyard?

Yeah it is electric. i got it from PFYC.com. i got some videos of the cutout but they are kinda shitty so you cant really hear how loud it is but trust me it is loud. i plan on getting some new videos with a drive by with it opened and closed, in cabin, and outside the car. i just gotta remember to do it ;-) .

Andy, trust me it is hard to not have it open ALL the time

It will be hard to not get a V8 for my next car down the road after having one

I got it from a junk yard, I had it on with the GXP tips which looked nice until I got my SE rear and needed to change my tips :D.

I'm running the magnaflow cat-back. I love it. Quiet when cruising, and loud when you get on it. Perfect.

^^^^^ For sure man. I'll have some sound clips of my current exhaust up this weekend too. I'll definitely post a link. By the way, DEFINITELY pissed off the neighbors this morning. Fired her up and let her warm up, goosed her a little as I left and saw lights turning on all over the place HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

i have the zzp aluminized exhaust. its ok but the drone is terrible. thats why im puttin stock muffs back on. and im doin an old school cutout. the wingnut type. not gonna spend a ridiculous amount on an electric one when the salt is just gonna eat it up anyway. plus i miss my car bein quiet. anyway back on subject... the alumnized exhaust doesnt even have a speck of rust exept on the welds. its a real tough system.

I have the Magnaflow cat back system as well, I like it, it has a nice deep sound to it, and is not too loud at idle, but gets semi-loud when you gass it, as I asked in another forum, when I took off the factory GXP exhaust, in one piece from converter to tips, I was wanting to know if that system would bolt right up to my 98 GT, and apparently it will, with no modifications, another guy did it to his 98 GT and posted pics, It looked awsome and he said it sounded more throaty than the stock 98 GT exhaust, so since the GXP is all stainless, IM gonna swap the GXP exhaust to the GT when weather gets better. I cant wait! I love my GXP, but I still love to drive the 2 door GT

^^^^That's awesome man. I ran into a guy last night and we hung out, he's got an 08 gxp with a res delete and it sounds much better than just stock. I recommend taking that off the stock gxp exhaust when you fit it to your gt. I have heard the zzp exhaust, it does drone big time, It's almost too loud IMO. I've got flow super 44's and a res delete and the zzp kit on a gtp is much louder at idle.

I've only had my GXP for a few months and although the V8 sounds better than my raspier GTP, I am not entirely happy with the sound. I probably should have bought a Mustang GT because that is the ultimate sound for me. This car sounds exactly like the 5.3L pickup trucks to me (Avalanche). Even if I change mufflers and delete the resonator, the sound may get louder but does the tone change at all?

I guess I need to here someone elses car to decide what to do. I would prefer to only change the Muffs (possibly flowmasters) because they are pretty inexpensive and stainless steel. If I get into changing the piping, I can only afford steel rather than stainless and it won't last long. Since the car is pretty new, I am apprehensive about ripping out perfectly good parts.

Bob

You can get flowmasters, tips and delete the resonator for 300 installed man. The flowmasters TOTALLY change the tone of the GXP. I had them let me listen to it before they deleted the resonator and the tone had completely changed but it wasn't near loud enough for me so I had them go ahead and chop off the resonator and weld in a piece of stainless. It's the best 300 dollars I have EVER spent for sure ;) I guarantee you that you will be over-joyed with the results. I'm taking some videos of my car this weekend. I will post the vids and give you a link so you can hear what it sounds like. :)
