I use soap and water to clean my wheels. I also use meguiars quick wheel detail spray in between washes to keep them clean. I use a product from master formula to polish chrome and polished wheels. They also make a sealer which I have used that repels water and makes it easier to remove brake dust. The sealer lasts a long time. I have used car wax on the wheels in the past to accomplish the same thing but I had to do it more often.

For waxing it depends. I have used tropicare products in the past and they are great. Zaino is always popular. Adam's polishes also makes good stuff. My friend uses their products on his vette. If you want over the counter items meguiars and mothers makes a 3 step system. I use the meguiars clay bar and meguiars 3 step system. For the wax step I substitute Meguiars NXT.

To clean the wheels, I start by not getting them as dirty as normal. #1 thing you can do here, is switch to ceramic brake pads. From there, treat them just like you would the paint on your car. They are clear coated just like the paint, so don't put anything on the wheels that you wouldn't put on your hood.

As for waxes, you're best bet is to try products that you have heard good things about. Thing is, everyone likes something different. I have found for my best results, I first wash the car w/ dawn or a dish soap, then clay bar the car. From there, a mild polish or glaze if needed, then I seal the paint with a synthetic wax like the Meguires NXT. The sealer will protect your paint from UV rays, acid rain, etc. for a good long time. It will also leave the paint really smoth. For the last step, I then put a very thin coat, ( or several ) of 100% carnuba wax. This will give your paint depth, and really bring out the gloss in your cars paint.

I use a car soap that does not have any wax in it i usually just give a few full treatments of liquid glass, it is some pretty nice stuff in my opinion.
